Title: How do I make existing, unused models, "invisible" when sequencing
Post by: Tory Street Lights on August 05, 2018, 10:18:36 PM
Question, How do I make existing, but unused models, not show up in the house preview when sequencing ?

I have a large number of four-string LED sets that will be replaced or overlaid by pixel strings. They are AC strings and have been imported into xLights from Vixen and are Renard controlled so will still need to be listed as part of the Renard chain, although not physically there anymore.

Do I make them "Unassigned" in the layout page, or have to physically remove them from the layout picture.

Or create a special preview for them and assign them to that preview.

Thanks Keith, I will see if I can figure out the method, so long as the strings/models are "invisible" in the house preview during sequencing that will be fine :-)

Keith was just giving a 3rd option but you already found the best option which is just make them "Unassigned".

Gil / Keith

Setting the unwanted models to "Unassigned" under the layout tab still leaves those models visible when running a sequence and viewing it on the "House Preview" screen.  What am I doing wrong  ??

If all else fails I can move them all out of the way to a currently vacant area on the screen  :-)

From memory, its because that model is in a group somewhere else in your layout. It should drop out once you remove it from the group.

Yeah if you put a model from unassigned in a group in default it drags that model into the default display

Interestingly it disappeared from the default preview in the Layout tab perfectly, but is still visible when sequencing so it must have something to do with the way I have the display elements setup in the sequencer.

See now that's two different things.  The models on the grid that you can sequence have no connection to which models show up in the previews.  That's actually what most of use as a feature.  Not widely used as much anymore but before we had all the various render style options we used to create proxy models which were basically another model mapped to the same channels as an existing model.  Then you could sequence the proxy model on the grid and have the data show up on the real model you wanted and it would change the look of the effect.

In xLights there are "Previews", "Views", and soon there will be "Viewpoints".  All 3 do different things.  Previews contains models to be shown in preview windows.  Views contain sets of models to display on the sequencing grid.  And Viewpoints will be camera locations to view your show from different angles.

Hi Gil,  Thanks for your explanation which all makes sense, I will look forward with interest for your viewpoints addition.  No worries about the original question, I have a workaround in place to achieve what I require so I will stop pestering  :-)

Cheers,
