Title: Show playback doesn't show any models/lights...
Post by: Stormyblade on September 06, 2018, 02:41:20 AM
Subject pretty much says it all, but let me elaborate just a little. Ever since the latest update, during the show playback, the only thing that plays is the audio. No models, no lights. The only way to fix this is to go back to Sequencer, grab all the models by putting a box around them to highlight them, then clicking off of them and re-trying playback. Sometimes this works, and sometimes I even have to go further by clicking on a specific model row to highlight it, or clicking a specific model effect, then trying playback. Once I can get one model to display, I can click off that model (into blank space), re-try the playback again and now everything plays as "normal."

Bug, glitch, or did something else possibly happen that I can fix?

Is this a case of not clicking Render All?

The title needs to be a lot longer to say it all.  I can't tell if you mean the real lights aren't working or just the previews.  Do you have Render On Save enabled or do you Render All before you Save?  I'll assume you are just doing playback on the sequencer grid although when you say "show playback" that can be done about 5 different ways.

Whoops, guess I did/do need to say more.

Render All on Save is ticked in Settings. I'm not sure if it was before the latest update, and I think I may have enabled it due to a message I was getting on the bottom of the Sequencer tab (in red text).

This is simply for House Preview, not the actual lights.

I will go back and check and report back on this. Thing is, just a week ago I wasn't having to do anything special to show the virtual lights on the House Preview -- I could do some sequencing in the Sequencer tab and just hit Play and immediately see my work being played back.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad at the updates, just wondering if this is something within the latest updates, or if I'm doing something odd.

If you render all and play does it play on screen

We don't just automatically render the whole sequence when you open it.  So whether it plays when you first open a sequence depends on whether you've rendered and saved and have a good FSEQ file for the sequence.  If for some reason xLights believes the data in the FSEQ does not match your channel count then it will throw away the data and you would need to re-render it.  You've been asked a couple times to hit Render All and then see if things are fine and I haven't heard you say you've done that.  Of course wait for the Render All to complete by watching the progress bar at the bottom.

You're right if you create a sequence each effect will be rendered as you are creating it but whether it plays again at open depends on whether the data is available to be read in at startup.   We've had issues in the past where it didn't pull in the data at open even though it was valid so if you can prove that's happening we will need to have you Package Log Files and post the zip file.

If you package logs pls use .33 as there are some extra log messages which may help isolate the problem if there is one.

Sorry for the delay in a response - I just finished my work week and it's 12-hour shifts so I do nothing but work and sleep those days.

On a couple sequences that weren't displaying in House Preview, I opened them, hit Render All, then hit Play and all is working.

I went back and ticked Render on Save under Settings and now xLights is behaving as "normal" -- at least, normal for what I am to used to.  ;D

Thanks again for all the guidance. Looks like operator confusion more than anything else.  :-[
