Title: Whole House and Text Matrix
Post by: Tenersaxman3000 on November 22, 2014, 12:24:57 AM
If my Text matrix is in the whole house model with a running effect, and I want to run an effect with words ontop of the whole house effect, how do I do so? Is it possible?

Also slightly confused on how the model columns interact with the effects being played back. Can anyone point me to a good tutorial or post on how to manage them ? I can successfully blend between two effects. But looking to do four or 5 effects at same time, Maybe I am not accomplishing this because I have a Whole house model involved?

When a sequence is saved the effects are rendered left to right so whatever is in the right most column is the last thing rendered.  If you have the same element / channels in more than one model whatever is in the farthest left column will get wiped out when the farthest right column is rendered.  This is only for things with the same channel assignments.  That is why the ability in 3.6.5 to move a column is so important.  If you had a matrix that was part of your whole house model and then tried to put text on the matrix its position in the column order would control whether the text survived or not.  But if you move the matrix column to the far right and put text in some grid positions my understanding is that the text would overide any effects in the whole house model.  To be safe I would probably put none, none in all the other grid positions for the matrix which tells NC to preserve what is already there which would be effects applied to the whole house model.  I hope this is clear and if I am wrong I am sure Sean will pipe in.

Jim is right on.

Normally you would not have models with duplicate channels, like when sequencing in LOR.
When we gave the ability in xlights to create multiple models, all with the same channel range , we introduced complexity.

We did this so you could sequence your individual arches or put effects on all of them at the same time.
Then along came Whole House Model. This , for sure, duplicates channels.
What is displayed in teh preview has nothing to do with what we create in NUTCRACKER. The only thing that causes effects to be created is having entries in the NUTCRACKER grid.

An example, suppose you have the following models as columns in your grid
Arch 1, ch 101-200
Arch 2. ch 201-300
Arch 3, ch 301-400
AllArches, ch 101-400
Whole House Model, Channels 1-5000

the first row could have
arch1=twinkle, arch2=bars,arc3=colorwash, allarches=none,none, WHM=none,none

second row
arch1=none,none, arch2=none,none,arch3=none,none,allarches=strobe,WHM=none,none

third row
arch1=none,none, arch2=none,none,arch3=none,none,allarches=none,none,WHM=butterfly

What this does:
first row
arch1 has twinkle effect
arch2 has bars
arch3 has colorwash

second row
arch 1,2,3 all are strobing.

third row
arch 1,2,3 are playing teh butterfly effect (along with all other elements in your yard)

so when entering effects in the grid
if models overlap, only have one that has the effect , the others should be set to "None.None"
