Title: snowflakes model
Post by: ranjanpa on October 30, 2018, 05:31:17 PM
Can I have two snowflakes of 144 pixels each on the same strand and have them behave a two separate snowflakes.

Currently I have assigned channels 100 to 244 for the first snowflake ( 144 pixels)
Snowflake 2 has been assigned channels 245 to 389.

Both of the snowflakes are on the same strand.

In this model I am able to test snowflake 1 but snowflake 2 does not output correctly.

Also last two lights ( 6 pixels ) of snowflake 1 does not light up.

Do I have to create submodes in order to achieve this.

Thanks

Yes you can have as many models as you like up to the pixel output of the controller. The first issue is each pixel uses 3 channels so a 144 pixel model uses 432 channels. do you have something starting at channel 1? it would not have anymore than 33 pixels.

your start channel would be 100 end 531
second model start 532 end 963

how far/long is the wire running between models? need testing but normally 5 to 6 feet.

The last 6 pixels of the first snowflake is a big clue.  Either there's a break in the connection at that point, or more likely there's a problem with the channel/string/universe definitions.  Do some experimenting.  Connect Snowflake #1 first to the controller (or any other pixels).  If the first 138 pixels works and nothing works past that point, then it's definitely not hardware related.

BB and Stosh thanks for your help. The distance from the controller is 15 feet. I had a problem with the channel definition in the Sandevices controller. The first snowflake is 144 pixels (48 lights). I have set up snowflake 2 to start at end of snowflake 1 so that seems to help.

In the controller I don’t have the ability to define separate output counts for each output separately so that kind of messed the universe/channel counts as I have to change the output for the set of four outputs and not just two - as was my requirement. Thanks for the pointers.

I thought SanDevices released a firmware update that got rid of that restriction and allowed every output to have a different number of pixels.

I did read about it Gil but am not able to upgrade the firmware on my Sandevices. Thanks
