Title: Layout/Channel/Controller Best Practice Question
Post by: abrianbaker on November 27, 2018, 04:17:55 PM
I have looked for a video/tutorial that explains the most efficient way to set up your channels in your setup tab and I could have sworn I've watched one before however I can't seem to find it.

Basically I am wanting to start from scratch and redo all my channels so it is more efficient.  Should I use unicast, DPP, something else?  I have using Falcon hardware and xLights (and Nutcracker) for many years so I understand the basics.

Anybody know of a tutorial or video that explains this?

Thanks so much!

You mention DDP - currently that option is only useful if your controllers are v2.x FPP based. That could be just about any controller using a Raspberry Pi or Beagle (but it does require you to be running v2.x FPP software)

It may be a race to see whether ZCPP or DDP win the race to become the "Efficiency" champ across more controllers. Both are much more efficient than using E1.31.

Yessir. Everything is running FPP 2.latestandgreatest lol. I have 2 BBBs, 1 Pi 2B, and 1 Pi 3B+. 1 also have a F16V2 in the mix as well which I know doesn't support DDP.

I guess my question really is should I base all my models off of universes. ie 135 pixel snowflake is Universe 100 and an 85 pixel snowflake is Universe 101 etc. Should I switch to a 510 universe since it is divisible by three?

I am looking to make adding things every year  easier while also making the show more efficient.

Thanks! 🙂
