Hi. I'd like to request an Orb or Sphere model. Mapping would be similar to a matrix and/or megatree, perhaps with 180, 270 and 360 model options ?

I use a matrix model for my sphere-ish tree topper (8 x 30) and for the porcupine sphere (8 x 3) in the middle. It's not exact, but it's good enough to give you an idea of how an effect will look.

a matrix model will do all effects you want on a sphere.
the only thing we are missing is code to draw it as a sphere. not too difficult to code up.
after i get my show running, ill start working on the list of todo items

Great, thank you. I do indeed have it setup as a horizontal matrix, and it works great. In the preview it just looks like a sign on top of the tree! Haha. This is mostly a cosmetic thing to make the preview look better.
If I want to apply an effect to the entire tree, including the topper, I would simply create a vertical or horizontal matrix where the channel numbers match that of the tree and topper, and do not make it part of my display? Yet in sequencing I can drop and effect on that model? Do I have this correct?
Thanks again.

I think i've seen that topper. You use flex strips and PVC for the "ball", and the porcupine sphere is in the center. I looked into mimicking that topper, but decided to go in a slightly different direction. I really like what you did.

Thank you for the kind words. My only regret is that we couldn't make it more "matrix-y" so we could scroll text.
Yes, if you make a model with the corresponding channel numbers you should be good to go.

Your orb model looks great! I'm going to build 3 of them for my 2015 show. Thanks for sharing your photos.

Thanks. I'm happy the the way it came out, but might need to do a bit more to make it more rugged before next year. I didn't get many build pictures, so if you need any pointers, just give me a poke.

My Orb is made from 300 white plastic cups. They each have a single pixel in the end placed in a spiral. I then use the single strand or a vertical matrix as the model.
-
Yea, that's how I have mine models setup as well, matrix and single string. The single string can do some neat effects on the orb.
I'd love to see a picture of an orb made from 300 cups! Sounds great!

This is half on a test run I took last year. Need to video full ball.
