Title: Kaleidoscope Crashed Xlights
Post by: rmaddox on February 24, 2019, 02:02:31 PM
I put the Kaliedoscope effect on a strand of lights (dragged and dropped), 3 strands in a column 50 lights on each strand and Xlights crashed. I'm using 2019.13.  I attached the crash log.  It's never crashed since then, but anytime I put the Kaliedoscope effect on any model, nothing shows up on either the model or on my whole house model.  I just have a black screen on the preview screen.

Well Keith fixed a Kaliedoscope crash 4 days ago and released 2019.14 2 days ago so you gotta try that first before anyone will look at this.

I'll have to make a correction.  I did download 2019.14 yesterday after the crash.  It has yet to crash, but I just get the black screen when I drop the Kaleidoscope effect on any of my models.  I just dropped the Kaleidoscope effect on one of my models again with the same results.  I attached a zip of the log files.

Did you have an effect on the layer underneath?

Sounds like its working fine...Kaleidoscope is an effect modifier...by itself it does nothing...lol.

Did the crash window appear?  The log almost makes it look like you had it running again in 10 seconds.

Program crashed 1 or two times before this report & then again once after I reported. NO crash window DID NOT appear.

No I didn't have anything on another layer.  I did  take it off and put it back on a couple of times just to double check that I had dropped it where I intended.

Kaleidoscope does absolutely nothing unless there is an effect underneath it on the same model.

I'm having the same problem Mike describes trying to use either Warp or the newer Kaleidoscope.

The symptom is as follows: I apply something like Butterfly and then either effect on top of it and it will not render on the House Preview or Model Preview. The fields are black. If I remove either Warp or the newer Kaleidoscope the symptom remains. If I try to render it locks up Xlights. Does not crash.

See attached logs, video, and .xml file

I’m using Windows 7 version 2019-14 64-bit on a Dell Latitude E7450

Thanks for any insight that might get these great new effects to work.

Yeah ... for some reason the render loop seems to be hung up.

If there's anything you want me to test, let me know. Happy to gather data as needed.

Thanks,
Jim
