Title: Can I import a view and its item order into a sequence?
Post by: szaske on April 18, 2019, 01:51:01 AM
I'm still new to xLights so my apology if this is a dumb question.

I've spent a lot of time getting my layout correct and just imported my first sequence from my old software. I spent a lot of time re-arranging the models in my Master View and I have a lot of items listed in my view.  I'm guessing this view order is saved in the sequence and NOT in my layout is that correct?

I ask because I've now moved on to my second sequence, imported those effects and my model order was not carried over.  In this 2nd sequence I want to have the same Master View items order as my first sequence.  Is there any easier way to copy this view order from one sequence to another?  I certainly don't want to go through this process for every sequence. When I was re-arranging the 100 or so items in my list xLights would lock up frequently for like 5-10 seconds before coming back to life, making the process painful to finish.  Where does xLights get the view order from anyway?  I suspected that it came from my import mapping file,  but it's not the same order.

You can search "master view" and probably find one of my many speeches about it.  The master view for each sequence is "unique".  You need to create a custom view if you want to be able to use it to create new sequences that all use the same model arrangement.

I know there is a video that shows how to do what Gil just said, but I can't seem to find that for you.  But as he said, make a custom view based on the order that you want to have things in.  Then, when making creating a new sequence, there is wizard that opens... most people click too fast thru that... but one of the screens asks you to select a view.  That is where you can use a view set up to the order you like.
