Title: How many ethernet switches in series?
Post by: Val Bennett on October 23, 2019, 02:23:52 PM
Are there any adverse effects of using 2 ethernet switches in series? We are running out of room to have home-runs from the main switch to each controller. For example, we would run a cable from the main switch near the show computer to a 5-port switch inside the first controller box, then a cable from the 5-port switch to the controller in that box and another cable to the other controller in a separate box. Each controller runs 400 RGB pixels, in case that is a factor.

I do that in my house, no reason not to do it out in the yard.

Not sure if this will help but last year I ran 3 switches with no problems.  Set up was CPU to 48 port switch(house switch)  From there to a 5port switch outside, to a second 5port switch at a further location in the yard.  This year will be the third year doing the same thing.
