Has anyone played with Glediator and been able to produce some good effects that cannot be currently produced in NC.
-
99% of the effects in Glediator can't be produced in NC.
-
Is that because they are too complex for NC and they will not import well using the glediator option in NC?
-
What I mean is that NC does not have the effects library that glediator has.
I have been able to capture and play all of the glediator effects I've wanted into NC with no issues.
-
do you have some examples of Glediator effects that you can share?
-
I got Glediator up and and all I can say is wow, so many effect types to create your own custom effect.
-
Any effect in glediator we could create in nutcracker, the only issue is time. When I made the ability to pull in glediator effects it extended the effects you can use. Some on the team wanted to go and duplicate the glediator effects. My feeling is we have other things to work on first (like the new xlights 4.0 user interface) . There are some awesome effects in glediator.
-
But I thought that I read somewhere that glefiator effects can't be inserted if you have a matrix (which I have) which has folded strings. Is this still correct
-
I think I have seen 2 methods of getting the gled effects into NC,
1. save the .glad file and use it with the NC glediator effect type
2. use gifcam to capture the glediator output panel and use the NC movie effect type.
not sure what does or does not work yet as I have not had the time to try it.

Please don't take this as a big negative statement, but I haven't found Glediator to be terribly user friendly with respect to developing effects/etc. But I haven't spent very much time with it either. Not really any help available, either... It is quite amazing... My two cents.
-
I found the tutorials for glediator very helpful, I too was lost with it the first time I started to play with it.

I tried the glediator program today... it looks very powerful and will be a good addition.
I did not see how to create the *.gled files that NC will accept.
I tried to discover how to create a .gled file, and how to use it.
There appears to be 2 ways that the .gled file can be used...
(1) convert it with the convert tab and you can get a .xseq file. I don't know the usefulness of this for my needs... what channel numbers does it use? do you merge it with NC sequencing like other externally-generated sequences?
(2) use it as an effect within your regular sequencing. Use the Glediator effect, and select the .gled file that you copied to your xlights working directory.
This posting was very useful:

The Extras/Recorder pulldown command is needed to create the .gled file. Follow Sean's instructions and you'll be good. I saw this dialog and was first confused since it appeared to be a method to capture E1.31 packets. Maybe it does that, but I followed the instructions and ignored the networking stuff and was good.
Enjoy!

I second Sean. Duplicating effects in NC should be a low priority. It would be nice to have, and maybe if there were some really commond effects that everyone used and loved from glediator.

summary for using glediator with xlights:
1) It works on megatrees, vert , horiz matrices. Folded modeles work fine.
2) First define your matrix in glediator
"Options,Matrix Size"
if i have a vert matrix 30x40 with strands =1
then define it as 30 x 40
if i have a vert matrix 30x40 with strands =2
then define it as 60 x 20
If I have a horiz matrix 10 x 150 with strands = 3
then define it as 30 x 50
if I have a megatree 20 x 120 strands =1
then define it as 20 x 120
2) Go get the effect you want. You have 6 effects on the left, 6 effects on the right. They mix in the middle. It is the middle window that will be recorded.
3) When all is set, record the glediator effect
a) "Extras, Recorder, Rec". Give a file name, our convention is to make the extension *.gled
b) Run capture for however many frames you want. Remember , xlights is 20fps
capture for 200 frames, you have a 10 second sequence.
c) Click "Stop" in the recorder. You now have a gled file ready for xlights
4) Go to xlights, choose glediator effect, select the *.gled file you selected. Press play. Speed slider can be used to change the playback speed from your gled effect.

4) Go to xlights, choose glediator effect, select the *.gled file you selected. Press play. Speed slider can be used to change the playback speed from your gled effect.
Be sure to combine the effect with other NC effects using mask, reveals, etc. I have created one sequence with a single gled effect combined in different ways with other NC effects!

I cannot get Glediator to open...watched sean's video...step for step...I have Java downloaded, so not sure why it wont open..anyone have any ideas?
-
Are you starting from explorer, or a command-line?
After installing Java you'll need to close and reopen the command window to pick up the new environment variables.
You are trying to open the Glediator_V2.jar file... right?
you should have extracted the entire zip file into a new folder with the full directory structure found inside the zip file.
-
That was it Steve..I wasn't officially extracting...thank you!
