Title: Ray Wu...only source, or others?
Post by: bob ginn on January 17, 2014, 09:48:32 PM
OK, I do a little importing from China via alibaba and aliexpress, and even ebay.  It is risky at best.  Ray Wu seems to have gained the trust of the DIY community.  I want to know what is YOUR sourcing for blinkys (RGB smart and dumb strings//strips/other.  Any group buys or co-ops usually offered anywhere?

Ray Wu. I have not seen better pricing from dependable source. Ray has been very good. I am willing to try someone else but only after others have been the Guinea pigs and report with positive feedback

I'm planning to join this one...

http://www.diyledexpress.com/ (http://www.diyledexpress.com/)  (look at the PRE-SALE items)

It is discussed in DIYC...

DIY LED Express Pre-Sale is ON!

It will be my first time going with them -- but the DIYC community seems to have a lot of good history with the site.

In particular I am interested in the Pixabulbs (C9 RGB) that people report to be compatible with DLA equipment.

Yeah, I've seen that one....only problem is the link at the bottom http://www.diyledexpress.com/ will not work for me, Firefox and Chrome.  I have posted twice on the problem, others have posted same concern on their FB page...no reply

The guy(s) at diyledexpress.com say there is no problem with their site.  they use a shared host with other web sites, and one or more of the users that share the host (a common IP address) have problems.  but they tell me that their site is ok.

unfortunately (for them!) their site causes my anti-virus software to block the site.  (I actually have 2 pieces of software installed, and BOTH flag the site.)

I have a notebook from work that uses another anti-virus software product that does NOT block this site.  (but my company seems to think it is doing a satisfactory job...)

Your browser is not the problem, but you might disable your AV software when trying to visit the site.

Yeah Steve that worked, thanks, but I was uncomfortable haviing to disable my AVG and Malwarebytes to view the pge...I will most likely just order from China.

Back to Ray Wu, yes his pricing is OK, but his shipping is ridiculous.  There are other merchants offering seemingly the same thing, low price, free shipping.  PLEASE check this out, and see if it is compatible with what we are doing

Bob, once you decide what you want to order from Ray, send him a message asking for quote to your address. Be specific about what you want and include pics or links when possible. I've ordered several thousand dollars of stuff from Ray. I pay him directly through PayPal with zero issues.

If you are going by the shipping costs on the Aliexpress website no one pays that. Like previously stated ask him for a quote.

Those look like they would work. The specs are right.

I've ordered a couple thousand dollars worth from Ray and almost as much from DIYLEDExpress. Both were good. Took a long time to get stuff shipped from Ray (initial quote was 2 weeks; took over 6). Pixels and connectors were great, though. I, too, used Paypal without any problems. DIYLEDExpress showed some great customer service when I received a couple of bad power supplies. Their pixels are great as well. I'd order from both again. And I plan to.

You can message him directly from his store page or through email here (Ray at rita-light.com)

Here is a "request for invoice" I sent to Ray's email address. I don't use AliExpress directly.

Quote
Mr. Ray, I need two price quotes, including shipping and estimated time to ship to Texas, USA. (just like the 4meter, but 5 meters)

First is for xx flex strips using the TM1809 chip, in 5 meter length

Second is for xx flex strips using the WS2811 chip, in 5 meter length.

Both for 12VDC. 30 LED per meter.

Thank you. Jon Back

I have found this to be effective and cheaper for shipping.
If you know his model number, you can include it. On this order, I was "fishing" for a better price. :)
After a few back and forth quotes, we get a final invoice.
Then I pay with PayPal.

Ray will generally also meet or beat any price you can find for other items from china or other items on Ali Express.

I saved USD1000 on my last order by shopping around on Ali Express and asking Ray to get me those items.

On Ray's web page is any icon on the left side that if you hover over it indicates that it is a link to send an email to him.

2013 was my first year to sequence and first year (of course) to go RGB.  Based on what I read on PC & ACL forums, I went with Ray Wu's store.  I must have missed the point about contacting Ray directly, so I probably overpaid shipping ("my bad").  I had NO problems with the four WS2811 strips or the P/S I purchased and would not hesitate to purchase from Ray again.  I think I received the stuff from Ray in about 2 weeks or so; I was very pleased with that.  I had read some posts where it took a LONG time to get some stuff from Ray.  That was in the September timeframe, by the way.  I also bought some waterproof connectors from DIYLEDexpress.  They are very good to do business with and I would not hesitate to do business with them again, either.   My 2 cents.
