how to apply effect to just the submodel?

what I'm trying to accomplish is apply an effect to just the out line of a simging face so I created a submodel of just the outline but now I don't know how to use it.

I figured it out had to create a group containing submodels

It should show in the sequencer under the face model as an option (try double clicking if not shown). If not, go into the submodel for the face and click on output to lights. Then go back to layout and try double clicking. This worked for me. I am not sure what output to lights does, but this worked two times on different submodels.
