Title: Color Wheel/Palette
Post by: michaelc on January 14, 2015, 10:47:31 AM
I have several DIY Floods and DIY Superstrips on my house.  They are made up of RGB leds that can be mixed to create any color.

Does NC have the ability to do something like a color wheel pick and apply to a model?  Lets say for instance I want a purple color.   I would want all the Red and Blue Channels to be at 100%.   Is there a way to do that.  I only see the ability to check the color boxes of an effect  and that doesn't allow me to set intensities of the unique colors.

Also,  how does one use the Save/Load Palette function.  Is there a writeup/instruction on that somewhere.

Try out the "On" effect I added.  It has 3 sliders for adjusting Red, Green, and Blue.

Thanks.  Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for.  How does that relate to palettes.  Can I save a custom set of colors as a pallette?

Yes.

Yes but my "On" effect isn't currently tied into the Palettes.  I wasn't sure how to handle it since it really only made sense for 1 color to be active at a time so what if someone checked more than 1 of the boxes.  I'll have to discuss this with the other developers for version 4.

I have another effect in mind that requires 4 colors so I'm trying to figure out how to design that one.  I guess I could automatically check 4 colors for this effect and prevent them from changing if that's possible.  But I also wanted it to be obvious what each color mapped to because it will be a head start color, head end color, tail start color, and tail end color and with the current palette scheme I would probably have to lock in the head start color to be palette entry 1 and so forth.

When I go back and look at my saved effects, the colors used for those effects is saved along with the effects.

Sure the color is saved.  But if you select a different color palette the effect color does not change.  It's fixed to how you set the sliders.  So that's why I'm saying it's not connected to the palette.

I was thinking when you see the color wheel on the left or the basic colors, there is a place to save custom colors. Maybe I define a set of custom colors and save that entire list as a pallette

In the current version on the Nutcracker tab in the lower left hit the "Palette" button and you will be able to manage palettes.  When you click one of the six colors beside an effect you can change that color to any color you want.  Then you can hit the palette button and save all those colors as a set and then load them back in quickly later.  It may move to a new spot in the new version but the functionality will initially be the same I believe.
