Title: Candy Canes - the RGB pixel kind
Post by: JonB256 on January 26, 2014, 02:02:55 PM
I saw videos from Bob Moody (on the Lone Star Holidays forum) and he used the HolidayCoro candy canes. 16 rgb segments in white coroplast.

Did anyone here use them? How was assembly and physical stability when tied to the vertical rod they suggest?

Any programming tips for Nutcracker?  I'm thinking they may work best as an arch or possibly just a line. (Bob did not use Nutcracker - he used LOR and Superstar)

Or if you used something like PEX or Lucite (translucent or clear) and 12mm bullet pixels, how did that work for you? How did you bend it?

i made 6' candles out of coro. 55 lights up, 55 down. using ws2811 12v flex. i used the arches model .
colorwash, spirals, twinkle all worked good for me.

I use Wal-Mart candy canes. I buy them after Christmas. I pull out the incans and replace them with 12 RGB nodes with a Water proof connector for the in and out. I space them two feet apart. I am using 40 of them at present. 10 per SSC.  I have another 40 or so that I have not yet converted. This year I was out of time so I programmed them as a group using the Horiz Matrix model.

I thought about buying a bunch of the candy canes, but I figured the RGBs wouldn't "look right" in the candy canes since they are already red & white.  Have you already put some RGBs in one of them and you like the look?  Thanks.

I'm curious what these look like.  I have a bunch and keep using them year after year. It would be nice to be able to find clear plastic like these that you could add pixles to that had a reasonable price.

I haven't tried to do this yet, but perhaps it would be reasonable to heat up & bend either PEX or HDPE tubing to build candy canes??  I am planning to go the coro route for Christmas 2015 in building candy canes.  I will probably copy one of the designs on auschristmaslighting.com forum..
