Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / LOW FPS
« on: June 21, 2024, 10:46:08 AM »
I've not been on the forum for awhile, so this might have been addressed:

Lights 2024.10 and 11
Apple Mini Pro 2
SSD drives

The Sequencer has been acting a bit weird lately.  The Play back will start at 2-3 FPS and after a while the FPS go back up to normal (~30 FPS).  This appears to be a case or buffer issue.  Has anyone since this issue?

Lights / Re: LED strips in Arches

I use 30LED/m strips but I put them in a translucent tube....looks good!

BTW: thanks for the Xlights support....you dan, keith, Chris and countless others really make a difference.

Gil Thanks for the suggestion.  That helped me identify what the issue was...... good job, as always!!

I think it's fixed but the light in ABQ is a bit bright and I won't know until tomorrow morning when I can focus on the display.

Happy Holidays

tried to send the custom layout again.

BTW: I'm using a SanDevices E680.  I've been testing several configurations.  no movement works, Wavy works, up works, but left or right don't.  I don't think I have to REVERSE rows with a custom layout, I just have to describe the matrix channel numbers.

I tried different fonts, different sizes, Xlights fixed fonts.... same results.

custom matrix layout: Why? 'cause it was easier to use existing physical models from last year.

9
Update:

the matrix is a 1200 pixel custom in defined in layout.

I went to a simple 1 letter text message...If I scroll the message left of right I get what appears to be the same letter moving in the opposite direction and overlaid the desired text .  If the letter is scrolled up or no movement:  no problem!

I killed the text effect and added it back in.... no change.

I ran the same text message on a smaller standard matrix ... works fine.  I'll continue to explore the larger custom matrix.

This might sound a bit crazy but my text messages that scroll across a matrix also have the same message scroll across the matrix in the opposite direction.  no indication on the preview, but on the actual matrix you can see it.  this is a custom matrix of 2812 bullets mounted on a pre-fab sheet.

Wow!...talking about a clean sheet of paper! you're so lucky!  Plan on the future...

I would run as many hard conduits (if you make it large as possible you can run different types of lines, and lots of them!) from your garage as possible...also put something on the roof, and where the roof meets the vertical house...Also put lines on to the perimeter of the property.

Fiber is coming within several years....

A patch board is a great idea..Best of Luck!

I've used cat5 for 15 years and run 5V LED's.  I double up etc the un-used lines... just made up your mind how you will apply UNFORMALLY the different colors of the wire.  CAT 5 works well!

I think a well done post on this subject was made by.... maybe Kieth.  I really don't remember who did it, but it would be helpful to Newbies and Oldies. (LOL)

Also please keep in mind that some of the "connectors" supplied by Chinese suppliers have corrosion within the cables and connectors (not copper oxide: green corrosion, but black/gray colored stranded wires).  This corrosion will result in a large Voltage drop for your models.

BTW: I'm a Ph.D in Nuclear engineering.  Doing the best I can with ohm's law.

I run 3 LOR 16 channel controllers and have never changed the Dongle.  It took a little bit of trial and error to get the correct USB port in Xlights setup, but no issues with controllers (address set to 1,2, & 3).  All 3 are daisy chained together.

I also just run each channels as dumb LED lights, single color.  Also, I've got 12 SanDevices connect.  No issues
