Do You Need Help? Post it here / Re: Possible? Piano key models
« on: September 24, 2015, 03:20:28 PM »
I have had my roof set up as one big horizontal matrix.  I don't see how I would be able to define my custom model for this application.  How would I define different nodes across different strands to create each 'key'?

Hi , you can Crete a custom model, you define the grid in xl , with the numbers and then copy and paste it into the custom model definition.

How would you sequnce the effect though ie manually ?
I'll have to play around with the creation of custom models using the grid.

Yes, I sequenced all of the 'keystrokes' manually last year.  It wasn't the easiest thing in the world, but it turned out nice. See below for an example.

Xl also has a piano effect and Sean posted a video on  how to use it, but I could not get it to work similar to the effect in your video.
I've always been under the impression that it wasn't entirely completed or functional.

Last year I sequenced everything in Vixen3.  I'm familiar with Xlights4 and would like to make the switch, but had a big question on whether or not I'd be able to replicate my 'piano effect' in Xlights4.

My roof is 14 strands of 50nodes.  In Vixen3 I was able to define models across the different strands to create models for each black/white key (see below). See the following video, https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=fCS0VfoX5NY

Is there any way to create these types of models within Xlights4?

Enhancement Requests / Re: Teaser screen shot

YES!  Looks very promising.

This is the only reason I used Vixen 3.1 last year instead of Xlights was for the more in-depth control of individual nodes.

(and BTW, looks like you do slightly different things than most while on a cruise)

Nutcracker Models / Re: Matrix/Row model question

next release will have scaling from 1-300 instead of 1-100. you can get singlestrand and matrix widths to match.

release should be out this week

Nice to hear Sean.

Any consideration being given to having the ability to change/enlarge the size of the dots/nodes that display in the Preview?  Sure would be nice when viewing on larger monitors.

I am running 3.4.12.

Please see the attached screen capture of what I am referring to. I am aware of the slider to change the size.  The problem I am having is that even with the individual models (Roof Row 1, Roof Row 2...) at size 100 for 'Element Size' it is significantly smaller than the entire matrix.  I changed the size of the matrix model down to 'Element Size' in the 20s but can never get it to exactly match the size/spacing of my individual models.  Ideally my individual models (Roof Row 1, Roof Row 2...) would be larger when their 'Element Size' is at 100.

Nutcracker Models / Matrix/Row model question
« on: September 16, 2014, 10:45:09 AM »
I am having a large matrix across my roof and have set up my model as a horizontal matrix (12x40) in Xlights.  The model works great and the preview is nice to view effects across the matrix.

I am now wanting the ability to control each row (string) of lights.  The only way I have seen to do this would be to create 12 separate models (one for each string) with the appropriate starting addresses.  My goal after doing this was to make the individual models 'overlay' the matrix model to make my preview appear as one big matrix.  The problem I am having is that even with the individual models (Roof Row 1, Roof Row 2...) at 100 for 'Element Size' it is significantly smaller than the entire matrix.  I changed the size of the matrix model down to 'Element Size' in the 20s but can never get it to exactly match the size/spacing of my individual models.

Thoughts how how/if this can be done?

Also while on the subject, it'd be great if the user had the ability to change the size of the dots/nodes that display in the Preview.

Yes, sounds similar to a question I asked on another forum.

I would like to see an added feature to be able to play a sequence within the Preview tab at 1/2 or 3/4 speed, similar to how you can slow down playback in Vixen.

This would be helpful in making sure your Nutcracker timing marks are as precise as possible.

Nutcracker Effects / Grid/Matrix setup question
« on: February 07, 2014, 10:36:19 AM »
I am planning on having a grid of lights on my roof that will effectively form a matrix.  The plan is for 10 separate strings of pixels with 50 nodes on each string.  Within Nutracker I'll want the ability to apply effects to the 10x50 matrix but also have the ability to individually control each string during other parts of the sequence.

I'll have multiple models that are essentially using the same channel #'s.  I'll just need to make sure and not have an effect playing at the same time by using "None,None" as an effect.

Is the best way to set this up in Nutracker to create a 10x50 horizontal matrix model and also created a separate model for each of my 10 strings?  If so, would I just need to size each of the single models to the same size as the matrix and overlay them on the matrix within the preview in order to properly visualize everything in the preview?

What new effects you would like to see / Effect enhancement - garland
« on: January 16, 2014, 03:00:07 PM »
Hopefully I'm not unnecessarily starting a new post for this.

I have a effect enhancement request that would seem pretty straight forward to implement.  There's actually 2 parts.
  • When multiple colors are selected for the Garland effect, have an option to alternate colors as the garland falls as opposed to fading the entire garland from the bottom of the model to the top.  The would give the tree/matrix/etc a striped effect.
  • Allow the Garland effect to work on single strings.  An example of this would be for a RGB yard border that is 'fed' lights from one end of the string and keeps building up until the entire string is on.

Can you post some pictures of your yard border?
