LOR / Re: Easy Light Linkers with X-Lights and DMX

The DLA site says you need to run from USB port into a Lynx dongle then to the DMX trx/rec.  Not clear to me how to do this using Pi B+.  The new B+ has four USB ports but is the dongle really needed?  That setup requires a separate DMX receiver for every LOR controller?  There are times that I would prefer to daisy chain some LOR units and this does not look possible

We'll that is unfortunate. Guess going to Slave Pi might be alternative down the road?

LOR / CMB24 operating in DMX
« on: July 15, 2014, 06:22:06 AM »
Does anyone have experience running the CMB24 controllers in DMX mode with X-lights?  Before making the jump into X-lights a lot of questions on whether things work OK.  Additional questions on pre-jump configuration changes to simplify the process.  As I have 8 CCR's and all the addresses for channels I would like to keep all the controllers with their same  unit address to keep from re-programming the ID's or changing the sequence information.  When you migrate the LMS data is there any issue with the order of the controllers that you migrate.  Would it be possible to bring in the 1.31 controller information first if you already have universe numbers assigned, then add the LOR AC controllers, a couple CCR's, a CMB, more AC controllers, and more CCR's?  That you keep all the 1.31 universe information in tack, and just add the LOR units as additional universes as X-lights wants to assign them?  For a CMB how many channels you give X-lights, 24?

LOR / Easy Light Linkers with X-Lights and DMX

Has anyone switched over to Xlights by converting their sequences to Xlights, added the DMX cross-overs to facilitate the DMX  outputs to the LOR controllers, and then used any ELL's to communicate from one LOR controller to another?  I run several houses which get their commands from the ELL's and need to be sure what the impact would be. As all the controllers that are linked are assigned to one unit ID the signals still get boosted several times as one ELL resends to the next house etc.  Will this still be possible and each house will need to have an additional DMX crossover added?  Those cross-overs are added between the ELL and the LOR controller input?  It seems odd that once you change the data wiring from the first output of the LOR controller in the transmission sequence that it would not be necessary to keep changing it on every controller after it?

I am looking at moving to the X-Lights software but need a few answers regarding the animation screen as it known in LOR.  When the conversion from LMS to XL-N do you have to start all over with the animation?  Converting everything to DMX that was LOR is one thing, but re-drawing would be a kill joy.  Does XL-N have issues with open channels in LOR. (a channel that has no assignment, Spares).  As I often move controllers from year to year and change the network assignments is this going to be easy to re-assign in XL-N?  Also have read that some CCR channels which included matrix commands are lost?  Instead of just 150 DMX addresses for a sequence with a CCR there are currently 7 additional lines of commands in LOR.  What happens to that data?  In LOR you can use the twinkle command with RGB nodes to facilitate a random changing color twinkle with all white.  What happens to this in XL-N?  I have read that anything that was set to shimmer is lost?  Does that mean that XL-N does nothing when those cells are read, or just what?  So, as I see it, all your LOR controllers need to be reset to DMX if you want to use them with XL-N and or the Pi Player, and all your files need to be converted to DMX?  Then you have to add the LOR/DMX adapters to all the LOR devices?  What's the impact on the CMB24 other than having to change the pins for DMX and the addresses.  If you are already running 1.31 with LOR and have 13 universes going, in order to not have to remap all your sequences for the universes and location do you add the AC LOR controllers last in the XL-N to keep the DMX mapping easier?  If you add the LOR AC units first then your existing assignments will all be lost?  A lot to consider if you have a lot of stuff done.
