Have you considered one layer a spiral with colour curves on the spiral colours.

Hi Keith, so, I'm mildly embarrassed to admit this but I am still using the 2017 software. I've been away from light stuff most of this year. I don't remember that being a feature in 2017, but let me know if it was. Guess I should go watch some of your videos for 2018 as a color curve on a spiral sounds like an AWESOME feature addition.

Hey everybody, this is a "how would you do this effect" post... For years I have done tons of different spirals, but never really thought about using layers to change the color of the spiral until this year.  I went into xlights last night and started tinkering and after a couple hours, went to bed... I couldn't get it to work.  I was able to get a single spiral to change colors by putting it on top, setting it to a white spiral, setting the layer blending to '1 is Unmask' and then putting a color wash underneath it with let's say blue and green.  The spiral then spins and changes color from blue to green.  Perfect.  If I try to add another one of those spiral and color wash combos, though, I can't seem to figure out how to 'reveal' the second spiral.  I have been successful at creating a fixed color second spiral, but if I put another color wash on top of the first spiral and color wash set, I completely lose the second spiral that is color changing.  I'm sure there must be some way to layer these properly, but I have changed most of the layer settings and can't seem to get it to work.  What is odd is that I can put any single effect on top of the spirals (color wash, plasma, butterfly) and set it to '2 reveals 1' and get the color changing spiral to play on top of the solid effect, so I think this has to do with the fact that to make a color changing spiral I am trying to combine a color wash with a white spiral in '1 is Unmask' mode.

Is there another way?

I think you also need to consider pixel spacing when asking this question, especially when discussing white. I am changing my megatree this year to 75 lights @ 5V.  I found that I needed 18awg wire and 3" spacing to maintain white at pixel 75 without flickering using Ray Wu lights. I also tested 3.5" spacing and I had flickering. Just that little distance in spacing dad a big deal with 75 lights.

I understand about the number of models Dave.  That can definitely be a painful exercise. I think historically that was one reason I have tried to sequence from scratch. I know there are some really good guides with tips and tricks, but still, when a sequence has 180 models or whatever we have, its tough.

Sorry for the delayed response on the peanuts song. I snagged that sequence and mp3 from someone probably back in 2007 before we made a bug fuss about sharing mp3 files. Shoot me a PM and I'll see what I can figure out in regards to how to cut up the raw song (which I own).

I have a spreadsheet. But with almost 300 universes, it's amazing how easy it was to overlook 2 little numbers and I would say that I am fairly ocd.  In this case, the fact that those 2 little numbers are such critical numbers also hurt (all 64 universes on that fpp are cloned after that first channel number and universe was entered).
