Nutcracker Effects / Trouble getting effects to work in sequence
« on: December 01, 2017, 10:45:42 PM »
Hi All,

I have been using this sequence kindly donated to the community by logandc99.
I have mapped and adjusted most things nicely, but just realised that all the on effects and shockwave effects around the 2min 8sec mark are not working for some reason. They don't show up in the preview or on the real light output.
The rest of the song these effects seem to work its just in this area. It's really got me baffled.
Ignore the missing pictures as they work, and I only just realised after I packaged it that I hadn't moved them to the show folder to clean it up.
Mainly seems to be a candy canes and flakes that suffer this problem.

Hoping it's just me being a novice to xlights, and it's really obvious to someone else.
Also hoping I've attached all the right files to solve it.

Regards,
Rowan

Xlights Setup / Re: How to Alt-tab between xLights and preview
« on: August 31, 2017, 08:16:45 AM »
Thanks ScottyJ, Sounds like that will be the go. I'm considering buying one of the really thin USB monitors that clip onto the side of your laptop screen to give me a second screen when not using my main computer.

Gil, I definitely like to see it scrolling too, and when home I have plenty of monitors so no problem. I was wondering if it was a feature of using different underpinnings as to why the various softwares ended up with different ways of doing the same thing. I shall adapt soon enough, ScottyJ seems to have it sorted.

Thanks for enlightening me and helping me on my way to the light side,
Rowan

Thanks for answers guys,

I guess I didn't explain it that well. The fact that it is always on top is precisely the problem.
Vixen user here looking to make the switch FYI.

Vixen workflow (on laptop at least) was to start the sequence running and then ALT-Tab to the preview window, IE never taking hands off keyboard and quick enough to catch the start of the sequence. Then Alt-Tab back to editor to make any changes.

I've separated it but I do not have the screen real estate to keep it open while editing. Only was I can see to do it is to go to VIEW drop down menu and enable and disable the preview window. Alternatively I could move it almost off screen, say at the bottom and then grab it to move back up after I've started the sequence playing. Both require many more movements and also a delay that means I miss the start of the sequence.

I'm guessing I'm just missing something and if people could chime in with examples of how they manage their workflow with regard to preview that would be awesome.

Rowan

Xlights Setup / How to Alt-tab between xLights and preview

Hi All,

I seem to be missing something, when using xLights on my laptop I only have the one screen and can't seem to figure out how I can start playing a sequence and Alt-Tab to the preview. The preview screen seems to not be a separate window, and can only be moved around and is always on top of the xlights window when not docked.

Is their a separate windowed preview that I need to enable, or how do other people deal with this?

Enhancement Requests / Candy Cane enhancement
« on: June 10, 2017, 06:06:22 AM »
Just musing,

Rather than having to use a custom model for chromacanes with 3 columns, could we add a setting to select the number or column each cane has. In the case of a chromacane you'd select 3.

Would mean we have to decide on a standard for wiring them, but most people I've asked go up the first column and down the second and back up the 3rd. With this assumption we could allow line effects to be mapped by reversing the 2nd column.

Could also allow for nice scrolling diagonal effects to mimic a traditional candy cane.

Anyway my 2 cents worth,
Rowan

Xlights Setup / Re: Setting up nested arches?
« on: May 24, 2017, 12:35:19 AM »
Should qualify that the picture is from <cough> another program and not xLights.

Would other people benefit in a setting to add a gap in between arches?

Should I put in a feature request? Or should I just live with them being individual models?

Xlights Setup / Setting up nested arches?
« on: May 23, 2017, 05:28:01 AM »
One for the brains trust as mine is lacking,

How would I set up my arches? I have a 4 sets of large, medium, and small arches, with the medium nesting inside the large, and the smaller nesting inside the medium. See attached photo.

The standard arch works fine for the largest arches as the ends of them are close enough to touching. But when I use the arch feature to create the four medium sized ones there doesn't seem to be a setting to specify how big of a gap is between the arches. As such I can't get the arches to line up.

What would you suggest as the best option, thinking I'll have to set each arch up one at a time then group them.
Another question is can I group them multiple time to allow for different effects.
IE:-
Group 1: Large, Med, & Small arch from arch 1
Group 2: Large arch from Arch 1, 2, 3, & 4

Hoping that makes sense to someone,
Rowan
