Thanks Keith, makes sense after watching your video on this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKSyxB14-SE

Quick question, do you have a suggested method for doing this based on my tree model that you suggest? I want to make sure my shadow models are built the most efficiently. Thanks again!

Correct Keith, but mine aren't connected together. 100 pixels are connected to port 1 and the next 100 are connected to port 2, but in the model setup it is shown as 1 string. My whole tree is 16 strings of 200 pixels, each connected to two ports.

I'm confused.  If you are using 32 ports you should be specifying 32 strings, at least as I have been taught a port = a string (logical string not necessarily a phyical string).

Where a logical string is whatever is connected to that port even if made up of 20 short physical strings of 10,  or 2 physical strings of 100.  In either case it would be one string of 200.

This may help clarify. My tree is a flat tree made up of 16 vertical strands, each strand is made up of 2 100 pixel strings. If I specify 32 strings, and 1 strand, then it makes 32 verticals strands on the tree...which is not correct. What I need is the opposite of what strands does.

As an example, I could say there are 16 strings of 200 nodes with 2 strands and that will make 32 vertical strands. What I need is to specify 32 strings of 100 nodes and have the strands section divide it by 2 in order to maintain 16 vertical strands.

I hope that is clearer.

Some time ago I was trying to set up my models in Visualizer and was having problems getting the result I desired. I found out that I couldn't because some of my models are non-standard. As an example, I have a Tree Model with 16 strings of 200 nodes each. The issue is that I ran into is when I move that model over to a port in the Visualizer and it auto maps across 16 ports. Unfortunately for my setup, as I choose not to power inject, I have 32 ports in use (2 per string). There was no way to split that up in the visualizer, and I can't break up the model into 32 strings of 100 as it changes the layout of the tree, adding an additional 16 lines....but what I need is them stacked by sets of 2.

I hope that my explanation makes sense. What I'm revisiting this to find out, is whether this functionality has been expanded to address this scenario. It's been a couple of years since I last checked on this and in looking at the latest version I'm not sure I can find a way around my situation still.

Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / Singing face images not loading as expected
« on: December 18, 2020, 04:21:18 PM »
I created a bug report on this as well but thought I'd also post it here in case anyone else has feedback.

https://github.com/smeighan/xLights/issues/2414

This is a tough one to explain so I made a video:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JaFMljz5lPwND7enhyPnW2TMuN4yzSFL/view?usp=sharing

I can reproduce this every time. Essentially, I downloaded someone else's sequence (attached), and when I play it after saving and rendering it's not recognizing the matrix images for the singing faces and just shows on the matrix.

To Reproduce
- Open xLights
- Change to show folder of the downloaded extracted sequence package
- Open the sequence
- Save and render the sequence
- Hit play and none of the face images on the matrix do anything but show a full red fill
- Go to the layout tab, select one of the matrix models with a singing face mapped to it in the sequence, select the faces section, click on the path to the image, then cancel out twice...changed nothing
- Go back to the sequencer tab and hit play on the sequence or click on the singing face effect on the model you previously checked in the layout tab...AND NOW IT MAGICALLY WORKS! :)

Expected behavior
I shouldn't have had to perform the extra step to click in a field for the face images. Especially since I never changed anything, nor did I save or apply anything...I hit cancel every time as you can see in the video.

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Re: Candy Cane Direction

Solved by someone on Facebook! I'll post it here for others!

Go to model data, right-click in the model field, and flip horizontally.

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Candy Cane Direction (SOLVED)

I feel like I'm missing something obvious here. I downloaded the Boscoyo Candy Cane model and can't seem to figure out how to get the candy cane top to point to the right as it is pointing to the left by default. I know I've done this before and am just losing my mind now!

I discussed this with Dan Kulp over email and he pointed out that the intensity levels in the LMS file were also incorrect/low and suspected it was something in the SUP to LMS export process. I looked further and it appears a default setting changed in Superstar where the export was applying color curves rather than the raw color values. I found a preferences setting in Superstar called "Export Raw Color Values" and checking this box corrected the export which also translated properly on the import into xLights. My apologies for any time spent on this false bug report that turned out to be on the Superstar side and not xLights related...and not even a bug!

Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / Re: LOR/Superstar LMS vs SUP color issues
« on: November 25, 2020, 03:58:42 PM »
I did some additional testing today and this also happens in Windows, so it's not something specific to Mac.

I checked the intensity levels in the LMS file and they look correct, but I noticed that xLights doesn't work the same, so I couldn't identify exactly where the difference was or why the colors don't match, but I'm assuming it's because xLights scales intensity differently. Hopefully, it can be corrected as the Superstar import colors look correct. Thanks again!

Description, reproduction, and expectation
I've not done this in over a year as I've not had a new LOR/Superstar sequence to import since then, but it appears something isn't working properly now. I've always chosen to import and map my sequences from and LMS file, sourced from an SUP, as the SUP imports aren't 1:1 with the images and effects. Despite the bloated files due to all the channel data and the extended loading times, I appreciate the accuracy of the details as they were made in the Superstar Sequencer...so it's worth it to me. Plus, I only need to go through it once as I'm not editing it afterward.

This has worked successfully for years but today when I imported the LMS file I noticed that I could barely see the colors...they were dim and very faded...some weren't even correct. I had never seen this issue in the past. I wanted to confirm it wasn't the file I was importing from and did a standard SUP file import and the colors looked bright, vivid and accurate. I believe that something isn't working when importing the color intensities from an LMS file and I'm hoping you can possibly figure out the problem.

Thank you!

I know that you can use the -w option to wipe settings but I was curious where these are stored as they seem to survive a program uninstall as well as blowing out any standard folders and xlights specific XML setting riles. I thought I had seen this somewhere before but I cannot find it anywhere. Thanks!

Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / Re: xSchedule Internet Usage
« on: November 23, 2020, 12:48:02 PM »
Finally figured it out.   Apparently I need to play the lottery because the odds would have to be really slim.

Short version - issue is resolved.

What caused my issues in the first place is that my pixel network is on the 172.30.1.x/24 subnet.  One of my controllers had an address of 172.30.1.10.  Well, coincidentally, as a Mediacom subscriber, Mediacom apparently has a managed device on their network of the SAME address.  Something is wrong on their end because I shouldn't be able to ping an address on their network - it's very possible, but a huge security vulnerability for them.  What flagged it for me that scheduler kept saying one of my controllers was online when I knew it wasn't.   Did a trace route command on the address in question and sure enough after 6 different hops I was getting a reply from some other device on the WAN with that same IP address.  I changed it to a different address that is not reachable via WAN, reset Force Local IP back to nothing, and now I no longer have outbound traffic on my network.

As a techie - that is actually kind of funny.  :-)   End of the day - all is good!

Anyway - thank you for the time & the responses.

Glad you got it working! Definitely an interesting story as to why you had outbound traffic :)

As for ping being allowed, not really a security risk, and a lot of providers allow it as a troubleshooting tool when customers have issues. If they were allowing more than ICMP echo requests then yeah...I'd actually run an nmap to see what really responds :)

You may also want to block external routing of RFC1918 space on your gateway.

I'm assuming your router is reading it as outbound based on the destination being considered something "off net" even though it is not forwarding it...routers don't route broadcasts. It's likely a processing order and your router UI displays it even if it never makes it past the local/incoming interface.

The broadcast going out all interfaces is normal behavior unless you bound the service to a specific interface. The Force Local IP option is the only thing I know of that can do that, but I'm not sure why it isn't showing both in the drop-down...does the interface for your show network not have an IP address?
