I downloaded the 64 bit version of XLights.  When I attempt to install it, Windows gives me the error message "This App Can't Run on Your Machine".  Download file appears to be about 13 MB short compared to previous versions. :-\

The Water Cooler / Have a Sequence You Want to Market?
« on: March 06, 2018, 12:43:00 PM »
I wasn't sure where to post this...so I defaulted to here.

I am preparing to launch a sequence sales web site featuring XLights and Light-O-Rama sequences. The site is moderately priced.  I am about 75% done with my portion of the site and it should be up and running within a month.

I know my sequences are pretty good, but I would be kidding myself if I though they were the best out there.  Maybe one or more of those great sequences belong to you, but you are not interested in setting up a website or maintaining it just to sell a sequence or two.  If there is some interest, I am opening my site up to third party sales.

Here's the overview.  You provide the sequence and any support files, excluding the music.  (Not selling music through the site.)  I will format it and maintain the web site.  You set your price, but I will get $5 per sale.  If it never sells, you aren't out a dime, just the time you put into getting the info for the ad together.

The site is very professional and allows for instant downloads of electronic purchases.  The software framework for the site is through 3dcart, a commercial e-commerce service.  If you are interested and would like to look at the site before making a decision, it's http://www.showstoppersequences.com.  Go to the XLights tab.  DO NOT go through the checkout procedure.  It has not been tested; just consider nothing there is for sale at this time.

If you are interested, please send me a PM here.  I can then provide you more details.  Thanks!

My Show Setup / Re: What RGB floods are people using
« on: December 28, 2017, 08:14:30 AM »
I use eight of the 10W from RobG and I tried one of Ray Wu's WS2811 10W floods this year.  There's really no difference in performance/light intensity.

Word of advice from experience: Unless you are good at soldering PCBs, buy a couple extra of the RobG floods.  That way if your soldering sucks (and you don't find out until the temperatures are cold and things contract), you have a spare to quickly replace the one you screwed up.

So I bought the sheet music off of Amazon.  Cheap enough -- under $5 and had my neighbor "translate" it for me.  I did not use the entire song for my sequence, just the two most iconic melodies.  For anyone interested, the opening is as follows, with each chord in parenthesis:  (G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,E)(G,B,E)(B,D,F#)(G,B,D)(G,B,E) and repeat.  The next one I used started around 35 seconds into the song:  (G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,E)(G,B,E)(G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,E) and repeat.  These basic patterns are repeated throughout the song.

Name the timing mark for the chords, and make an unnamed timing mark gap between the chords to turn the piano keys off since the chords are repeated.  It makes for a very realistic piano display on a matrix.  I will post the video on my vimeo page when things are up and running. (http://www.vimeo.com/stoff)

Thanks again to all those who responded.  Have a great season!

I have a plan B.  My neighbor is a retired piano teacher.  She owes me a favor because I salvaged her computer files when her computer crashed.  Plus she loves our light show.

When I get it from her, I will share it.  I will share it so hard.

If no one can supply you the notes, or you can't find them online, you could always create a new timing track using the Polyphonic Transcription. Not perfect but it may be good enough for the effect depending on how accurate you want to be.

I wrote guide for the piano effect a while back, see attached, that may be helpful if you haven't used it before.

I just downloaded and read your guide.  Very nice.  Thank you for sharing.

I have tried the import notes, but like you, have no musical background and I'm not sure how accurate they are.  It sure seems like alot of notes.  And I mean ALOT. Ha!

I am shocked that no one has done this; it's seems like an obvious thing to do with that song.  Or maybe they have and just don't want to share: "He wants my Precious but he can't have it! He's being tricksy. He can't have my Precious!"   ;D

I am looking to use the Piano effect on a matrix with TSO's Nutrocker.

Does anyone have the note breakdown for the song; I am not musically adept enough to figure out the notes and chords.  TIA.
