General hardware / Re: Megatree pixelstrings PSU question
« on: August 30, 2016, 03:54:31 PM »
Thank you for all inputs, I look deeper in my garage and I had 500 12mm leds, not 200 that I thought from the beginning so i think I would go for the PixNode system and order more 12mm leds.

One more question, they also have matrix nets 2" & 3", clear and black, I would like to cover the house windows.
My own choise is 3" clear, mostly to not kill the view out, but will 3" be to sparsely to show text and images from a 5 -8 meter distance?

Actually it was the ws2813 I was thinking of....here's the last post and the reference to where it was being peddled.  If that's not you then don't worry about my comment.

Ok, have not heard about that pixel before.

I have to say I'm skeptical since recently every time someone asks a question about ws2812b pixels it's usually their first post and they are actually someone who sells them.
My english is not great so I may missunderstod your reply but my thread is what I should by so I don't do the same fail as first time when I bought it.
Here is what I bought for few years ago that I have not used in a good way yet until I now found the fantastic FPP on Pi.
10 rolls x 5 meter each WS2812B in siliconetubes. 5 Volt (30 leds per meter)
10 rolls x 4 meter WS2812B non waterproof 5 Volt (60 leds per meter)
200 ws2811 12mm leds 12Volt
6 DMX flood lights 10W 12 Volt
1 E682
1 E6804
3 Pi's so far.
1 5 Volt 350 Watt PSU
1 12 Volt 150 Watt PSU Waterproof

And some other mixed leds with 4 wires, data & clock.
When I first order I did not know what to order and the differece between the products, but now I know little more to not mix to much.

And no, I don't want to sell it just to make something of it and complement to build a megatree. I did a test last year with the ws2812B but 5V take much amp so I was hoping to get some feedback if I should continue or change and buy new products.

I maybe have another account in this forum, I don't know since I never receive any email when request password and the only thing on the webpage say email sent?
So I created a account and post this question, I'm happy to continue with my unknown account if I have any since before but I don't know and sorry if that is the case.

I have seen several threads recently about this and it seems to me that more and more folks are dropping strips on trees for nodes using Boscoyo mounting strips.  I gave up all strips due to the difficult repair process and at some point you will have to repair them.  And I am not alone.  But it is a personal preference so good luck with whatever your choice may be.
Thank you, I have look at both boscoyostudio & holidaycoro and I may chose that solution instead. The conside is it's extreemly expensive shipment. If I use this method, is it better with the flat 12mm pixels or the round. I already have 200 pixels of these round, I may use the round ones to some other smaller things.
It also seems to be better on my main PSU question with the 12V pixel nodes:)

General hardware / Megatree pixelstrings PSU question

Hi, I already have 10 of these ws2812b http://www.aliexpress.com/item/BLACK-PCB-5m-DC5V-WS2812B-led-pixel-srip-IP68-30pcs-WS2812B-M-with-30pixels-waterproof-in/926778326.html
I think 12volt is more friendly with thinner powercables etc. but in my case when I already have start with 5v is it better to continue to buy same?

I don't know if 24 strings is the number for a mega tree but with a total length of 24 x 5 = 120 meter total which is 864 watt at maximum. Could I split this with 3 PSU like http://www.aliexpress.com/item/NES-350-12-12V-350W-meanwell-switch-mode-led-power-supply-AC100-240V-input-12V-350W/2037997604.html?spm=2114.13010208.99999999.261.d9qdoL and use same ground.

How is your pixel string mega trees built? 5v or 12v, pixelstrings or pixel nodes.
Advantages disadvantages
Thanks
