I am running into an issue that has me stumped and I have to be overlooking something obvious.  So i started a new directory with my settings files from last year.  This year I did some rearranging on my controllers.  Well now on my "Garage" controller (DMX Universes 40-45) I get no output on just the garage controller although the models show fine in the sequence.

So to troubleshoot this i created a test show directory, built all three controllers again in the same order with the same universes, rebuilt my matrix and a strand I have on the "Garage Controller" and output to lights works fine (where it did not in the original file).

The channels all look the same, the models (at least the two I brought over) look the same, for the life of me I cant figure out why one setup works and they other does not on this one controller.  I have attached the settings files from my Show directory (Christmas 2020) and my Test directory (Christmas 2020 Test) if anyone sees anything obvious any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess I can rebuild all my models in this new directory but was hoping to not have to do that.

Gil,

Thanks for the clarification on the numbers.  I really need to watch the most recent videos.  I did managed to try a different sequence opening the XML and was able to get that one working just fine so maybe something happened to the ones I was working on (or more likely i broke them trying to "fix" them).  I will copy them back over from a backup and go from there.

Hello all, I am getting a late start this year as I was unsure if I was going to have a display at all due to family issues etc.  But I have managed to get the lights going and even add some to this year. 

The issue I am running into is I have updated to the most recent version of xlights on my mac (2018.46 on OSX Mojave) and I have copied over my xlights_ files and all of my sequences.  But when I open the fseq all of my models now have a number next to them in brackets (i.e [2]) and when I re-render the files sometimes nothing shows as far as lighting goes in the models.

Am I doing something wrong or did I miss how to do something properly in the new updates? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am down to the wire and would like to kick things off this weekend.

If I can provide any more information I will be happy to do so just let me know what may be needed.

What do most folks use to video record their show.  I tried my iphone and our HD Video Camera and the lights seem to be too bright for those (or I don't have a setting right) as the colors seem to just bleed out.  Any tips suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Trying to record my show before taking it down for the year.

I was running into this same issue.  During troubleshooting I dropped down into the shell of the Pi and noticed it could not resolve anything by name for example it couldn't resolve pool.ntp.org.  So i just grabbed one of their IP's that they use in their DNS answer (128.138.141.172) and put that in the Pi instead.  Seems to be working so far. The Pi is configured to use the same DNS servers my machines use so not sure what is going on there and didn't really take a lot of time to look into it.

Might want to try using an IP for NTP to see if that resolves your issue.

Looks like according to your setup Left Tree 2 should start on channel 451 and then run into Universe 20 on its own.  You have the element setup in xlights to go straight to universe 20 thus skipping over the first set of channels in the controller.  What I would try is change your xlights setup to start left tree 2 on channel 451 and drop an effect  on it and see what you get.

It sounds like your channel count is off somewhere.  Lights lighting up red and green means the channel count is ending before it can get through all 3 channels.  I have the same issue with a set of lights and eventually found where I had skipped over a channel.

What I found easiest for me (being my first year doing this as well) and at the recommendation of some others on this forum was to set my outputs on my controllers to unique universes and then configure the output for the max amount of channels in a universe (i.e 170 pixels).  I threw this into a spreadsheet and that helped calculate the start channel that I could then program into xlights.  Once I was done with that I took a laptop out and basically went through each element and dropped an effect on it and set xlights to output to lights to test everything.

I went a route similar to what it looks like you may be doing in trying to set each output to the correct number of pixels but that proved frustrating for my first go at this.  I may sit down and hash it out once the season is over but for the sake of time it was easier at least for me to go the route above.  You will not run out of universes as there are roughly 64K.

Just my 2 cents others may have something more solid but that is what worked for me.

I am on a mac but if you click on the gear for sequence settings you should be able to change the duration from there.

Enhancement Requests / Morph Effect Assist/Multiple Morphs

If this is already done I would love to know how to do it or make things easier.

But what would be interesting is the ability to show the previous morph or another selected morph in the morph effect assist along with the one you are working on.  For example I am working on 2 effects I want to look like are tied together it would be great to be able to say control click on the previous morph (or some other click function) and have it appear in the effect assist window maybe coloring in the boxes the effect overlaps or something like that while letting me work on the current one I am working on.

What I find myself doing quite a bit lately is going back and forth between two effects to make sure I have things moving in the right direction or not skipping rows and making the effect jump.  I am trying to keep it all tied together and smooth.

This may not be possible or may be extremely difficult code wise but just thought I would throw it out there.  If there is a better way to do this already built in I am open to tips and tricks on that as well.  This is my first year with Xlights so I am at the beginning of the learning curve but I can say I have spent at least 4 hours a day in it for the last 2.5 months and am loving it so far.

I am working on a sequence for TSO Wizards in Winter and there are sections in the song where I want to light a sequence of single strands on my mega tree.  What is best practice for accomplishing this? Sub Models? Drop the effect on the individual strand? I tried to accomplish it with the music effect but I cant seem to get that to work either for just a single strand at a time.

Thanks for any advice trying to get at least part of my show up and running tonight and then just add to it as I finish sequences.

     LOR Sequences (legacy sequences I already had)
     Shared Sequences (sequences from kind folks who have shared their work)
          username/name of individual who shared
     Halloween 2016
          Audio (mp3 tracks etc)
          Models (any custom models that were created and/or imported)
     Christmas 2016
          Audio

Just found another thread with a user having the same issue but a good suggestion from Gil to just create a dummy sequence and test that way. 

Don't know why I didn't think of that earlier, cold weather getting to my brain.  Back outside in this lovely 35 degree weather to continue testing trying the sequence way.

So I have my mega tree stood up and am trying to do some testing out of xlights direct (for now) and am running into an issue possibly a software bug (or more likely me doing something wrong)

So in xlights I have my tree built as a 16 strand tree 40 nodes each. I used individual start channels for each strand as I am using 1 output for every 2 strands. So strand 1 is the starting channel for the universe and strand two is just the next channel in order strand 3 is the starting channel for universe 21 strand 4 next channel at the end of 3 etc etc.

In xlight I have the network setup for 510 channels per output.

In my pixlite I have the my outputs set as individual universes starting at 20 on output 1  and 170 nodes per output (510 DMX channels) and so on (this is my second controller, the first one is universes 2-17)

So the issue I am running into is when I go to the "Test" section in xlights i scroll down to my models and select my mega tree however only half of my tree lights up.  Looking at this closer the test section shows channels 8161-10080 for my tree however according to how I have it setup it should go through channel 11771 (unless I am completely off here)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
