Do You Need Help? Post it here / Help with channels setup
« on: November 29, 2018, 12:29:40 AM »
I'm trying desperately to get things setup for debut on Friday night! I need some help making sure I have all of my channels setup properly.  I have my mini trees where I notice that things aren't lighting up like I have in my sequence.  Instead of the four trees alternating colors, I get each tree half of one color, half of the other.

I thought maybe I don't have things setup properly for my channels?  I'm using xLights to sequence and FPP on a Raspberry Pi to run the show.  Most of my lights go through two E682s.  I go out from the Pi to a switch, then out to each E682.

Can anyone give me some pointers?  I've attached my current channel setup.

Why dont you jump into zoom and ask those there to help you work it out? There are already folks in there today and there will likely be people there for the rest of the night.

Tell me more... being a newbie I'm not sure what zoom is.

So I feel like I've tried everything.  I have three wreaths with RGB bullets. I have an ethernet extension cord to each one with round waterproof connectors.  I've interchanged all of the pieces, and all of the outputs.  Everything works except this one wreath.  I even tried a brand new string of RBG bullets, and a new connector and that  wouldn't work either.  I don't know if I have an FPP setup problem, which everything worked perfect last year and nothing has changed.  Or if there is some issue with my E682, or issue with the lights.

The output in question that I normally have this wreath connected to works just fine when I plug another wreath into it.  Maddening >:(

These are bullets, with a round waterproof type connector (that I soldered together.)  Everything worked great last year.  I pre-set it up in the garage and everything still worked- right up until I put it all up!

Well that did not correct it.  It does the exact same thing- flicker once when connecting, but no data/function of the lights.  When I plug other light strings into the output those work, so I know its not the output.  It seems to be just that string.

Let me try switching ends of my connector.  I did switch with other outputs in the E682, and other connector in that specific output, and got data, so I know the output is correct.  I hadn't thought that maybe I switched ends on my 'extension cord'.

One of my RBG strings appears to have power, but no data.  When I connect it, all the lights flicker initially (which I assume means there is power).  But there is no data and they won't run.  Is it possible the first light in the string is bad?  The first light flickers when the string is plugged in.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

Lights / Re: WS2811 strand won't come on

I think I may have figured it out!  I replaced the european connector to the e682 and it works again.  Perhaps it wasn't connected properly there.  But now it works.  Now I have to redo my connections that I took apart testing everything. But it should work again!

I've seen it be several things.  Yes it could be a bad pixel.  It could be miswired from the manufacturer.  I had one string I saw work this weekend and then after troubleshooting something that string quit working.  I cut out a couple pixels and it still wouldn't work so I can only assume I fried all the pixels somehow.

Yeah it worked just fine when I tested it before connecting the whole display.  I can't figure out what happened!

I don't think I'm connected to any other data out side of that string.  I switch the input plugs on the e682 and no lights to the problem strand.

Lights / WS2811 strand won't come on

I'm hoping someone will have some insight for me.  I have one wreath that I have 100 ws2811 pixels on that won't light up.  I am running it off of a sandevices e682.  All of the rest of the show is working except this one wreath.

- Tested the output with another wreath- works fine.
- Checked the fuse- OK
- Tested straight from the sandevices interface- does not come on (all other outputs come on)
- When I first connect it- all the lights flicker so I know it is getting power.

Any chance the pixel data chip is bad on the first pixel??  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

General hardware / Re: Controllers Setup Help Needed

Suck-cess!!  I tested everything from LOR Hardware Utility and the controllers worked great (what a pain in the butt to install the RS485 driver software).   Still nothing from the E682 outputs to the LOR controllers.  I went to take pictures of the 4-1 and 4-2 outputs and lo and behold- I had the wires backwards!! :((  Switched those wires on the ethernet cables and voila everything now works.  That's my doh! moment!!  I even ran everything from the Pi and FPP so now I think I'm in there.  Now on to finalizing my sequences and finish building my arches/wreaths.

Mark you've been the biggest help with the channels and setup! Got it all fixed in xLights and in the FPP E1.31 setup thanks to you.   I checked out your FB page and your lights are amazing.  Once I have everything up and running I'll upload some pictures and videos of mine.

Redoing the E1.31 setup on FPP worked for aligning the channels correctly.

I tested directly from xLights and the E682 works with no problems.  When testing the CMB24D and CBT16PC i get channel 1 to come on both controllers but it doesn't seem to follow the test pattern.

So I still can't get the Floods or LEDs to come on.

Just to clarify from earlier- the Unit IDs on the LOR controllers are at Unit 01. Ok, so I'll redo the E1.31 settings in FPP.  And like you said, I'll take the Pi out.  I had to bring home a computer from work to do this since I don't have one with an ethernet output (MacBook Pro).  So I'll set this all up on there and retry directly from xLights.  I had re-rendered the test sequence I'm using and re-loaded it to FPP but that didn't help.  I'll take the Pi out of the equation now and let you know.

Mark- thanks for all of the help!  I've never felt so stupid on this kind of stuff before.

I reset everything and I now have the channels setup exactly like you mapped out- both in xLights (Network Setup and model layout) and the E682.   I have the J22 jumper correct, and I have the 4-1 and 4-2 outputs to the CMB24D and CTB16PC thru the ethernet cable correctly.   I ran the test sequence and a musical sequence and its basically the same.  I get Flood 1 and LED 1 (CTB16PC) to work randomly for the test, but none of the other floods or LED strings. The arches and wreaths seem to work okay.

BTW, did I mention I'm running this through FPP on a Raspberry Pi?  I honestly think my channel outputs on the Falcon Player are screwed up which may be messing everything else up.  Here's the picture of the channel outputs:
