Enhancement Requests / Modify group of different effects
« on: September 20, 2018, 09:14:31 AM »
Thanks to the xlights team, this software is amazing!

Many times I've wanted to change the brightness of multiple lines & effects to help bring out a different layer, such as having a ripple go over many other effects. So I want to modify the brightness of all those other effects at the same time to experiment with what will bring out the ripple the best.

However, when changing the brightness on multiple effects, and pressing update, they also update to the same color.

Maybe this is really only a desired feature for us who use layers a lot.

Would a separate update button next to brightness be a possibility?

Nevermind... I had the layer settings mixed up from one effect and it carried over to the next. Rookie mistake. All is good here.

Thanks again.

Actually, I deleted the layers manually from the .xml file  :-[. I moved them into a notepad before I tested to see if it crashed or if it worked. Since it worked I didn't save them.

Although the sequence didn't crash, and the original issue is gone, now new effects aren't working in some groups. Although it shows the models in the group, the effect won't spread across all the models.

The Nutcracker data layer is back, but maybe it's missing the correct data?
Bummer  :'(

You probably imported it as a Data Layer.  Only way to get rid of that data is go to the Settings menu, Data Layer tab and select the layer and delete it.
BAHHHH!!! YOU ROCK!  ;D 8)

I've been at this for hours! Thank you! thank you! thank you!
I had two layers, and I was skeptical about removing them but sure enough once they were gone it cleaned right up!!! WOOOOHOOO!

LOR / Imported Channel Effects to Channel 1 - 16 and cannot move! HELP PLS
« on: November 26, 2016, 06:52:22 PM »
I've imported my sequences from my 16 channel display last year into xlights and I am loving it.
I'm 60% done with one of my sequences (show starts in 2 days) and I've noted odd activity on channels 1-16.

I'm thinking when I imported the LOR effects, they went to channels 1-16 immediately. Then I went and remapped the channels to a different universe for my LOR models. My smart lights were setup already starting at channel 1 before I figured out how to DMX to my LOR board and assigned channels.

So, it seems like somehow the effects stayed on those channels. I can open up the model that starts at channel 1 and see on the nodes the effects, which in turn show up on my display BUT I cannot delete them. It is as if they are setup on a different model on channel 1, but I have no other model on channel 1.

How do I delete something like this? Help please

In case someone else happens upon this old post (I found it with the Google search "xlights locks up").
The source of the problem is when model B's channels are set to follow model A (vs. an actual channel, which happens automatically when you copy and paste a model), AND then model A gets deleted.
Xlights tells you that "model B" can no longer find it's channels on startup because model A is gone. This is what was causing lockups for me at least.

My Solution: (which doesn't require deleting your models)
Open your xlights_rgbeffects.xml file, preferably with an HTML or code editor if you have one. Find your "model B" line under <models> and change it's starting channel to something else, like "1." Next time Xlights starts there will be no more errors if you did it right, and no more lock ups too. Hope this helps some other rookie like me when they stumble upon this.
