I figured out the "Effect 1" part after I posted but didn't know about the setting in sequence settings.

Thanks for the help.

I've got a "Whole_Display" group and it is placed at the top of the master view.  Below this is "My_House" group and below that is some yard models.

"Whole_Display" consist of "My_House" and the yard models.

The yard models, "My_Arches" specifically, arent behaving as I expected.  I thought that because they were below the "Whole_Display" group, they would be rendered last.  My believe of rendering was that it completely blanked the channels then applied the new effect.

What I'm seeing on the arches is a blend of the two effects.  It appears that the black portions have transparency.

I've deleted most stuff from my display for simplicity and run the "Check Sequence."  Can someone explain why the arches has the green background from the "Whole_Display" group?

I've attached my files but Im guessing this is a fundamental misunderstanding on my part that will be explained without needing the files.

Thanks

For anyone looking, this feature has been added in 2017.38.  Change "string type" from "Single Color" to "Single Color Intensity."

I created a copy, ordered it the way I wanted and saved it.  Now I can click it and select "make master" in each sequence.  Is this best practice?

Xlights Setup / Make render order change persistent across all sequences

Is there a way to modify the render order of the master view and have it persist across all serquences?  I can't figure out how.  When creating a new sequence, where does the order come from?

Awesome.  Sounds like the fix will be released shortly but in the meantime, is there a config file that I can manually change or some other way to get it working for Halloween?

"Checking schedule.

IP Address we are outputing data from: 192.168.1.215
If your PC has multiple network connections (such as wired and wireless) this should be the IP Address of the adapter your controllers are connected to. If it isnt your controllers may not receive output data.
If you are experiencing this problem you may need to disable this network connection."

However, in xlights I have the "force local IP" set to "192.168.1.200"

Worked great until I tried the scheduler.  How do I accomplish the same thing in the scheduler.  Can't find the comparable setting

When I originally created my layouts earlier this year I created my Christmas layout in a separate folder.  Copied everything over to a Halloween folder, changed directories removed Christmas specific stuff and added Halloween stuff.  The lights themselves are largely the same.  Main differences are talking faces, candy canes driveway outline, etc.

I thought that would work well but now I'm second guessing myself.  Once I got the lights connected I realized I had made a few minor errors in channel counts.  My current method would require me to modify both layouts which isnt ideal.  Also, if I add something new to the lights, I'll have to do it twice as well.
Is there a better way?  Perhaps using multiple  "Previews" in the layout tab, or maybe using multiple "Views" in the sequencer/display elements tab?   The challenge is that the talking faces are run by a Renard 64 channel controller that is repurposed at christmas time to run the candy canes.

Looking for options to weigh pros and cons.

Thanks

Are you talking about in the setup tab of xlights?  I've always left these at 510 (or 512, doesnt really matter as long as it is equal to or greater than your (pixels x 3) it will work.  Whether these unused channels contribute to performance issues or not, Im not sure.
With as many channels as your talking though, youre most likely going to be using all of them so it's probably a moot point.
In my case, I have some outputs that have, say, 50 pixels.  That means Im only using 150 channels but in the software I allocate 510.

On settings menu is a force local ip. When set xlights will use the adapter with that IP address to send out data. If that ip is not present then no data will be sent at all. This is the only operating system agnostic way I could find to solve this problem.

Perfect!  This did exactly what I needed.
Thanks!

To add one more bit, I connected the LAN to my e1.31 switch and now I can control my lights and remote in at the same time but of course, now Im sending multicast traffic all over my LAN.  I'd like to avoid this if possible.  Any way of accomplishing this?
Thanks

Finally getting around to testing with a real sequence on my show computer.  I have one NIC connected to my LAN so that I can remote into the show computer.  The other NIC is connected to my E1.31 network.  I know it's not ideal but both networks are on the same subnet.  I obviously dont want to change my LAN and all the static IP's that are on it.  I would change my e1.31 devices to a new subnet but for some reason I lost the ability to connect to the server of two of my e682 sandevices and can't change the IP.

When I use the xlights test program to test output I get nothing.  Pulling the LAN cable from the computer the lights come on but of course my remote session ends.  Reinsert the LAN cable and the lights stop functioning.  Is this typical?  Is there anyway to allow both to be connected at the same time?

Nutcracker Effects / Re: Morph checkbox in layer blending window
« on: September 16, 2017, 11:03:29 AM »
nevermind, i was overthinking it.  i was creating my effects on the same line and trying to create a third on the second layer to blend.  after posting i realized that i could simply put effect two on the second layer and select "1 reveals 2."

So... using "multiple layers and transitions,"  how would you create a blend from one effect to the next?  I've messed around with adding a second layer and various blending and transitions but can't get it to look like I want.  Also checked out lots of videos but can't find one that does what I want.  LSP has a "auto-blend" checkbox.  You can leave a gap between transitions, then fill the gap with an on effect and select auto-blend between the two.  Im sure I can do something like this here but can't figure it out.
