Nutcracker Effects / Effects on Snowflake Model

I'm just getting started in learning how to work with effects.  I have a couple of the Boscoyo Snowflakes and am trying to duplicate what I'm seeing in this video:

So far the only effect I can duplicate is the one at :26

I'm looking for hints in just identifying the effects/layers/submodels likely used, and I'll try and figure it out from there.  Not looking for complete hand hold, just a boost.

Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / Create New Model - Parsing Error

Xlights 2018.46 64Bit
I'm new so I could be doing something wrong.

When I attempt to use the Model Download, I get:
21:20:04: XML parsing error: 'unclosed token' at line 1769
21:20:04: XML parsing error: 'unclosed CDATA section' at line 29905

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Parsing Error

I'm a newbie in the process of learning.  I thought a great way to start would be to take the Linus and Lucy sequence recently posted on the Facebook group an figure out how it was put together.  But when I try and load that show I get "Unable to load RGB effects file", followed by,  "XML parsing error: "junk after document element" at line 282.  Based on the comments to the post it does not appear others have had this issue. What am I doing wrong.

I'm using version 2017.30 64 bit.
