Xlights Setup / Re: Unicast or Multicast with Espixelsticks?
« on: December 15, 2019, 01:22:08 PM »
OK, Not an expert; but, I will tell you what I understand. There is significant overhead from using unicast in the  Wifi setting. There are exchanges of "hand shaking" data between your e.131 controller and the pixelsticks. Might work well for a few pixelsticks, but could cause problems for larger numbers. In multicast, the controller just sends out the data like yelling "Hey universe 21! this data is yours" and doesn't wait for acknowledgement. With unicast there is back and forth.

Another issue is if you are running your show on the same network as your normal network, then you Wifi bandwidth is also shared. Kiddie watching Netflix on the laptop may mess up your show. Better practice is to separate these activities on different networks.

Anyone had problems with 2019.4 and 5 and xSchedule? I have a simple sequence I use in testing new light strings and wireless controllers I am working on. The sequence works fine in 2019.3 but I only get a rare flash of lights in version 4 or 5. The sequence plays fine in xLights .3,.4 and.5. Just won’t play in xSchedule. I’ve gone back to .3

Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / Err with a NULL controller channel check ?
« on: December 16, 2018, 12:10:43 PM »
This error doesn't affect operation. I have a P10 matrix on a BeagleBone Black which I setup on a NULL controller with id of 10000 which becomes the start channel. There are 6144 nodes so 18432 channels. That makes the last channel 28431. When I use the check sequence tool it reports:

 Models spanning controllers
ERR: Model 'Matrix' starts on controller 'Matrix' but ends at channel 28431 which is not on a controller.

The Beagle Bone in remote doesn't care and dutifully displays the show

Xlights Setup / What am I doing wrong???
« on: December 16, 2018, 11:54:09 AM »
I posted this on Falcon Christmas but realized this was probably more appropriate.
My display consists of a megatree, a matrix made of P10 panels, 4 stars and a string of 300 pixels along my railing. I had the railing string up last year before I had  my 16 output controller and I used an ESPixel to drive it. I bought an AlphaPix16 controller at the beginning of the year and have put my display elements, except the railing on it. My show plays fine with the railing on the ESPixel and the everything else on the 16 output controller. I decided to get the wireless router out of the mix and move the railing to output 13 on the AlphaPix. I configure the AlphaPix to place universe 37 with 300 nodes (so also universe 38 also) onto output 13 and the controller lights the railing up with the internal test without a hitch. However, when I try and setup xLights and render a sequence to play on the display, it doesn't work. My setup screen and models screen are attached. I'm sure I am making some simple neophyte mistake here; but I am flabbergasted! Fortunately, If I just point those universes to the ESPixel on 192.168.0.204 all works fine.

Thanks
