not really familiar with Appimage, to compile from source, you need to download the source code and install all required libraries, with Appimage,  download the Appimage file, make it executable and run it, compiling takes much longer, and yes there is developer way, its way beyond me...

am not that good at Linux..been trying, but what I believe, compiling installs the software, and with PPA, it adds it to your source list, then you can download an executable file when new upgrades are available..thats my understanding.

Hello everyone, I drew a blank trying to set-up arches, first year I had 6 arches , each with its individual output port, rebuild the controller box, it was kind of messy, now I have have two arches per output , each arch is 53 nodes long, that's where I drew a blank trying to set up the arches in xLights, all controllers are Falcon F16v3, anyone with and idea how to setup the arches, possible its an easy fix, but I dont see it, thank you in advance..

Thank you dkulp..I thought also supported 18.04, did a clean install of Ubuntu 19.04 on my xmas-pc, installed all libraries listed on the Readme file, cloned xLights.. tried to compile...still got errors, read more about the installation of wxWidgets found that there is choice with gtk2 or gtk3, made a change in xLights Makefile to configure wxWidgets with-gtk=3 instead of gkt=2 and was able to compile xLights 2020.12 in Ubuntu 19.04.
Thank you again for pointing that.

collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
xLights.cbp.mak:1350: recipe for target 'out_linux_release' failed
make[1]: *** [out_linux_release] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/muttjr18/xLights/xLights'
Makefile:28: recipe for target 'xLights' failed
make: *** [xLights] Error 2

Hello everyone, first post... this question is for anyone using Linux, the machine am running (Ubuntu 18.04.4, Intel Core i7-6800k CPU, 3.40GHz x 12, 64-bit), I've been having issues while trying to compile from source, am not that good at Linux, been trying.., it could be a simple solution..but I don't see it, I've included a screen shot of the terminal after it fail to compile, have read and followed how other Linux users have fixed their issues, but my issue still remains...thank you in advance for anyone pointing me in the right direction..off to work...
Again thank you..
