Nutcracker Models / Modeling single channel AC (NON-RGB) elements
« on: June 12, 2020, 10:01:29 AM »
I still have LOR controllers in my show that are just AC controllers (non-RGB). So, they're basically one channel in my configuration. However, I want to model them in xLights as the shape that they are to have a reasonable visualization of the element. So far, all I've found is references to using the line or poly line models and setting them to a single channel. Naturally, that doesn't really work so well in terms of the visual representation in my model. Is there some way to draw an actual shape, give it a color, and still have it represent a single AC channel?

LOR / Directly connect to LOR via DMX (or via SanDevices controller)
« on: June 10, 2020, 12:47:28 PM »
I know there's bits and pieces of this question around the forum, but I couldn't find a precise answer to this issue. I have LOR controllers and SanDevices (E682) as part of my show and I'm trying to determine the preferred way to connect and model them. Right now, I had planned to connect the LOR controllers to ports on my E682 controller, setting the port to DMX. I've assigned this port to a universe and am assuming each channel on that universe will be use to animate each channel on the LOR device. Is this the right/preferred way to configure the controllers? I see some threads that seem to suggest I could directly connect my LOR controller to my network in DMX mode and eliminate the need to connect the LOR controller to my E682. Is that an option and, if so, is that the preferred option?

I am running the Mac version of xLights. In looking at the documentation and videos, it seems as though the Mac version doesn't align precisely with the Windows version. Most of the documentation and videos seem to be more focused on the Windows version. As somebody that is new to xLights, should I be favoring the Windows version since more resources seem focused on that version or am I just missing something?

I'm new to xLights and I'm creating my first sequence. I've tried to look at the available resources (videos and the manual), but most of what I seem to find doesn't seem to reflect the experience in the current version. This could just be that I'm referencing the wrong materials or the materials lag behind the current versions, which I understand.

I'm setting up my controller and building out my models and running into some really basic issues. I don't, for example, seem to have access to the same options shown in many of the screenshots in the documentation. I'm trying to understand how models are mapped to controllers. Right now, when I add a model, it just gets automatically assigned to a controller. I don't seem to be able to edit the relationship/mapping between the controller and the model. I essentially want to add a model, and assign it to a controller, universe, etc. and that just seems to get bound outside of my view (I presumed based on a channel number). All the documentation and videos I find on this subject have options to control this that are not in the versions I am running (the latest).

On a totally separate note, it's unclear to me how I should designate where a model begins and ends. Does pixel 1 start at the nearest location to where the model connects to the controller or is this entirely configurable. I know the indicators in the model illustrate where the beginning and the end of the model are, but it's unclear where the begin and end *should* be based on how they are connected to the controller.

Any help would be appreciated.
