Thanks for all the help!  Got it and it works and looks great!

Excellent.  Thank you.  I thought about that but didn?t think about the swirl to make it bigger as it falls.  Amazing FX.

I am going to add some of my existing props to DMX and just make them flash on and off in time with the music.  The pixels are the show, I am just giving my 3 existing deer some sequence data.

Figured I'd start small and try a very basic card with  Port 3 on my F48.  The video online for the Colorful USA (see link) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBGnXHgWcAM&t=1006s

I can get it to do what he suggests, but he is showing the sequence all on one line.  That means I can't copy and paste any other FX that have notes that may overlap.  And THAT means I have to recreate a sequence just for my DMX props.  It's either 1, 2, or 3 or all of them at any given time.

Does anyone know how to make each DMX port work independently of the other so it can do a separate sequence track that may have FX at the same time as say, channel 1?  I tried layering all on the same row, and that works but again, only when each channel is on separately.  I would like to do a row of General DMX 1, General DMX 2, and General DMX 3 (one for each deer) and each deer would flash to a different copy of an existing sequence row, just copy and paste into a row of DMX and switch that line to DMX from on.

Or is that impossible with this card??  Again, coloful usa DMX card that gets data from F48 DMX Port 3 output.

Question:  If it has 512 channels, why can't you assign 1 channel to each row of sequence or assign them.  I know it only has 3 on and off relays, which is fine, but can it only play one at a time or all at once??  I have a feeling that is where mapping comes in????

Anyone??

May be just a setting on an current FX, but I have not been able to recreate.

I call it the "Parachuting Flare",   Here is a link to it!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY7P18ttlQA

Thank you!

The Water Cooler / Re: Clear Pixel Strips for Mega Tree Question

I am talking about the mounting strips for the pixels on a megatree.  Got them from Boscoyo.  It's no biggie...I left them on, but just wondered if that would make any major difference in the look of them in the future?

What new effects you would like to see / Re: Pulse

Yes that is what I do!  Layering and adding fades in and out makes vocal light syncs look amazingly real!  I have the Pulse on my mega trees and it goes up and down the the music full length!  Amazing affect.  Just play with the drop downs.

Agree with a lot of what you say.  YES to QUANTIZING!!!!  It is a HUGE time saver. It is NEVER perfect when using it with LIVE audio instead of midi studio, but is WAY better than doing all of it by hand.

I have also suggested either an interface with a midi keyboard, or the typewriter keyboard to where whenever you type a letter it enters a selected length (in music terms event or note) FX as you type with the music.  I am doing the Hallelujah Chorus and it has MANY different parts in sycnopation.  It sucks doing it by hand.  Would be so much easier if you could enter FX Notes as you hit a button an a keyboard.  A-Z, each not assigned to a particular effect.  Lighters don't get what musicians do.  We call them tracks, and notes.  Essentially, you are entering notes or events, and assigning a particular FX to it.  So why not allow us to enter "ON" by hitting an key on the keyboard each time the note of the song is there and you can record it on that "track" on the fly.  Just like midi, then quantize it.  Again, fixing a FEW that are off is A LOT easier than fixing two or 3 "tracks" of FX.

I agree with the zoom!!!  One thing I have suggested also is that they let you move the House Model Preview to another screen...how about the sequencer track view???   That is the one I REALLY would like to separate.  As you stated, that is the one you REALLY need lots of room.  I have two screens and would love to leave my FX and models and other screens open on one, and the sequencer on the other!  PLEASE do that XLights!!

Thanks Ozaz:

I like the idea of comparing the html.  That is where I get lost.  I downloaded everything ok, and think I even got it in Xlights properly, but still have to mess with it.  I just got my display (props for the yard anyway) up and running with no problems.  I will do the house outline this Spring when the weather breaks.  That is where the real wiring starts.  The props are all removable wiring, the house I am leaving up!

Once I am done with that I am sure I will have at least 15 sequences.  I am working on my 4th right now.  May download some, but they seem like they are more trouble than they are worth since you still have to reassign a lot of things, and most displays I am seeing have a lot more than I do.  I have 10 total props.  3 snowflakes, a manger I built with 83 nodes, a bethlehem star, 2 tree stars, and two 7 foot tall mega trees that I built.  I still have to build a wire node holder around and inside my existing wreath, which is the way I decided to go.  That's it.  Then on to a few Halloween projects   I alredy have TONS of yard decorations for that...still haven't decided if I just want to ADD to existing lights, or go full bore with LED spots...but I am ordering 7 spots for my navtivity set, instead of the LED light bulbs in them now so I can dim and make them come on and off, but most of all to change color and mood.  So I may use them in my graveyard then reulitize for Christmas nativity inside my plastic blow molds.

After all that...I will get to remote falcon!  lol  But I wondered if there was any easier way than changing HTML, but apparently not.  So I will learn it as good as I need to, to get the job done.  I have a few months yet!  LOL  that's why I started this all at Christmas 2020.  December 18th to be exact!

Isn't that funny....that was the one FX that blew me away too and I was wondering where it came from.  I saw it on a mega tree near my house and I am tempted to knock on his door and ask if he will share!!!

The Water Cooler / Clear Pixel Strips for Mega Tree Question
« on: February 15, 2021, 02:16:21 PM »
This may seem like a crazy question....but when you get the Clear Pixel Strips for Mega Trees they come with a film over them, that I am thinking is just for protection in shipping and packaging, but not sure??  Maybe it is for ultraviolet or something like that?

Bottom line, am I supposed to rip it off, or leave it??  Sort of like they film they put on most LCD displays to protect them if you know what I mean.

Thanks,

Thank you all for the replies!  Learned a lot.

Sequencing is more about the music, than the effects.  I use the word "Notes" to refer to a sequencer you use in music recording MIDI.  If you hit a key on a keybord, it inserts a corresponding note on the sequence time line.

If a song is playing, you can hit a key on the keyboard and a note is inserted each time you do.  If you can keep time at all...this would be EXTREMELY helpful when sequencing effects in xLIghts to various parts of the song.  Like a bass rif or bass Drum or a roll across drums.  Right now you have to go in and enter each effect, find the right length (1/4 note, 1/8, 1/16th etc.), then copy, copy, copy!  With a MIDI keyboard, it would enter an effect like "ON" each time I press a note.  You could select the effect before hand, then use a typing keyboard, instead of a musical one, and keep the beat on the keyboard.  Now no one is perfect at doing that....so that is where you beat markers come in.  After you perform the bass rif, lets say, you would hit a key that "snaps the notes/FX" you entered for that "track" as they call it in digital recording, and you have a bass FX track.  Then you would add drums, and so on and so on.

I am sure most don't care to be that sophisticated, and maybe that is why no one has ever suggested it, but the sequences I am building are ones like the Halleluiah Chorus, and there are many parts, and some are syncopated!  One part is singing one thing and one is singing another.  I have done it by hand and it looks amazing.  My snowflakes and stars at the Sopranos, my houseline and wreath are the Bass, and my posts are Tenors, and the altos are other props.  But it works with Bass, organ, piano, drums, guitar....anywhere where you are entering an effect like a note.  Just SOOOO much easier than, enter, copy paste and paste and paste.  Plus, the "snap to timing marks...or snap to grid" is what they call Quantizing in recording lingo and you can select 1/4 notes, 1/8 notes, 16th notes, etc., then select the entire track and "Quantize it".  So if your timing was a bit off, it would "Snap it to the timing marks" in the case of xLights.  If anyone knows what I am talking about, I am sure they would second the suggestion!  Just saves an amazing amount of time.  Any musician who has recorded digital multitrack will know exactly what I am saying.  Importing MIDI would still require that you assign an effect to each "note" to get the same effect.  But you can more easily just do it by tapping a key along with a particular part (bass, piano, drum rolls, etc.) and have it snap to the "grid" when you have completed it.

Anyone know this software well enough to get me started??  I just don't know HTML well enough to get going with the design of the website.  If someone is willing to answer a few questions there, or even set up a Zoom call where I can show my screen that would be great.  Don't have to walk me through the whole process.  I am sure once I see what it is you're doing I will catch on and be able to complete the remainder of the site.  Got it loaded and the "key" entered, but don't know where to go from there.

Thanks,

Awesome!  Thanks!!!   I did find some of the other functions as well.  The box selection works when you turn off the Bars and Beats timing marks, I noticed.  That helps!

Would still love to learn more about FX and layering!  What is the best place to go to learn more about that?  Any suggestions??  Does the Zoom call really go into those areas??  Mostly the discussions I have seen there have been hardware related (very helpful....but I am past most of those issues now...thank God...and Zoom participants!)

Also, if there is anyway to hook up a midi keyboard to insert "On" notes into the sequence  Right now I am inserting them manually, copying groups of them when in place.  It would be so much easier if you could designate which effect, and hit a key on the keyboard or a midi controlled keboard, that would insert the events...Notes as I call them.....with the song/sequence.  And snapping them to the grid would be helpful too.  Looks like there is some function in xLights like that, but don't know how that works yet.

I'm sure I do.  Any quick notes as to what I should look for as far as my list??  Maybe just a number of the ones that are available so I can look for them??
