What new effects you would like to see / Re: New Effect: Fan
« on: April 24, 2015, 08:38:33 PM »
The colors order is always clockwise so if you are arranging it across a group of models the color order will depend on the direction you spin the fan.  I did just notice one thing I want to change.  A negative blade angle is causing it to reverse the spin direction.  I will change that so only reverse switches the direction.

If you have it across several models and are seeing black then that's probably the gap between the blades.  Each color is not a blade like in pinwheel.  In Fan each blade is subdivided into the number of colors selected.  So if you have a blade width less than 100% you are going to get a black gap between blades.  Try making the blade width 100% and that black should go away.

Very cool Jon ... even in daylight!

My Show Setup / Re: Steve Gase Show Setup

Steve do you think the color of the diyc strips caused you any issues?  I've been wondering if I might be able to stain mine with some woodworking stains or even tanic acid like the old days to take the white out of them.

I have a little 9' bush that i want to turn into a "mini mega" this year to mirror my "mega tree" and haven't decided, but was leaning, on using paracord because it would blend in better with the new pixclips i bought or using the diyc strips I also bought just in case.  2" spacing will give me 50 nodes in 9' which is just right to match the "mega tree" 50 nodes at 12"

I understand James on the DIY Christmas board (where I believe Steve got his strips - thanks Steve!) is going to offer the strips in white or black with his next offering. He is not taking orders at this time but will be soon.

Thanks for the details Steve. My Mega tree was 24 strands with 112 (2" spacing) pixels per strand this year (360). It looked OK but I really like the looks of yours and may have to redesign! Thanks again for the info.

Steve, very nice, great job! I have a question on your Mega Tree, how did you mount your pixels and how durable were they this season?

Thanks,
Fred

Thanks Steve, I didn't get the exact same effect that you did (difference in models most likely), but I got some really cool effects using the suggestions you made!

Thanks,
Fred

Steve, I got the same results you did, but was more interested in the effect you were using. Would you mind sharing your settings?

Thanks,
Fred

Xlights Setup / Re: My Dumb Questions Thread
« on: March 11, 2014, 08:17:15 PM »
Dan,  Thanks for your thoughts about at least one way to do it.  So if running the controllers is the only way, how do I convert these controllers to run in DMX mode?

Tks!!

I can't speak to the LOR controllers, but converting the D-Light controllers to DMX is relatively easy. You must either reflash the PIC on the board or buy a new PIC and flash it with DMX firmware (if you want to save the D-Light firmware). You can also buy the PIC with the firmware already on it from Darryl (on the D-Light board). There is lots of information on how to do it on the D-Light board. I converted all of mine to DMX last year (several AC16s, AC8s  and a couple of DC16s).
