Raspberry Pi4 running as Player; Kulp K8-B running as remote.  I have used Mp4 video files as audio in all my sequences; the Mp4 files play as they should via HDMI out from Pi to my projector, the audio plays as it should via audio out on Pi connected to my FM transmitter, and the K8-B goes blinky blinky, playing my sequences just as I  created them, with one problem:  the timing of the effects is off, by maybe 100-200 milliseconds, lagging behind the audio and video.

How can I fix this?...I worked real hard to get the timings just right, and everything sync's perfect in Xlights

Well, I stumbled upon something that clarifies part of my confusion: I assumed the software (xL/NC) sets the channels on the hardware (in my case F16's) when in fact the hardware has to be setup with its' own software.

Thanks Sean...lots of good info

What are some common uses for this? (powers which boards, etc)

With a PC PS, is this a good solution for FPD, and what case would the ATX board, the FPD, and the PS?

Thanks
If you ever get over to my house, I will show you all the choices.  I think I have at least one of everything.

I am excited to meet you!...looks like end of feb or 1st of march...I'll give you a heads up when I know for sure

Many have stated that they use xL/NC exclusively to sequence their shows...I wish to do the same, if I can.  I get to the setup window, and am immediately stumped.  Please look at "My Show Setup" (link in sig) (post#2 has a diagram of my proposed setup), and chime in on the following questions:

1- with 2 F16's and 1 hub, do I setup as E1.31?

2- if yes, should I choose 1 universe for each device, or choose "starting universe# 1" and "# of universes 3"?

3- how do I setup the Lynx Express? (standard LED's, 16 channels)...do I have control of fx and timings in xL/NC?

Gonna go back and re-watch Seans videos

Per the drawing you posted, #1 is no, you won't be using E1.31 output at all. You have the FPD (like me and many others). There is a promised FPP interface change coming to make that clearer.

#3 - You have several ways to get DMX to your Lynx Express. You can configure one of the outputs on the FPD to be DMX in the proper universe range, or do like I did and get one of the Falcon Pixelnet to DMX Bridge boards. Five universes of DMX (currently 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) but eventually will be changeable to any combo of 5 from the 8 in a Pixelnet stream.

Let me clarify, I am trying to just get through the xL/NC program setup so I can get a little jump on learning some sequencing. I dont have any of the proposed hardware components yet.  So there is no way to setup the software to generate a preview of my proposed setup until this FPP interface change is implemented?

My Show Setup / Re: Bob Ginn Show Setup

if this is your first show, it looks pretty awesome.

Thanks!  Sean, should I take 4 strips from from the mini-tree section and add them to the megatree?  I've noticed you have 20 strips in your tree...is there a BIG difference in "fullness" or "density" with 20 v 16?

Lights / Converting LED 1/2 Wave to Full...how?
« on: January 24, 2014, 11:51:55 AM »
Being new to the blinky world, I have been reading tons of stuff on bunches of web sites.  I read a thread somewhere where they were discussing LED lights purchased from Big Lots as being 1/2 wave, and they were going to put a resistor somewhere to make them full wave.

I  bought 40-50 sets from BL last week.  Is this conversion worth the effort, and how do I do it?  I plan on using the lights on wireframes/etc

Maybe convert the boat into a sleigh?...extend a horizontal pole out the front for reindeer?...first thought that popped into my non-technical mind  ;D

Lights / TOTAL cost considerations LED vs RGB
« on: January 18, 2014, 11:31:05 PM »
I plan on having 8 mini-trees. I will either light them with 3 LED strands (3 channels per tree, right?), or 1 RGB strand/strip (still 3 channels, but only 1 RJ45 line, as opposed to 3 with LED, right?).  My question is, is it cheaper to just go RGB?  I don't know much about which controllers/hubs/PS/etc that is needed for this...any suggestions would be much appreciated.  My pitiful show plan (thus far) is in my sig

So far I know I am going to use FPP with a FPD; I'm not clear on what comes next in the chain between FPD and lights

You have all kinds of choices. :)

From the FPD you can connect up to 12 universes.  The universes can be any mixture of DMX and/or Pixelnet networks.  From the FPP you can ALSO send our E1.31-connected universes.

On the receiving end of the DMX universes you can have DMX controllers -- dumb string controllers, 110v -powered incandescent or LED strings controllers like LOR or Lynx Express, etc.  Yes, you can find smart tring controllers that use DMX.

On the receiving end of the Pixelnet universes you have Pixelnet controllers, like DLA Smart hubs, DLA Zeus controllers, Falcon-8 or Falcon-16 controllers, or the upcoming Falcon Smart hub.

If you use hubs, then you still need to connect controllers after the hub.

The strings of lights connect to the controllers.  The controllers interpret the DMX or Pixelnet protocols and  convert the data into pixel data to drive the smart strings.

Connected to the

Thanks Steve...I have sooooooo much to learn before I can even formulate another question  :o
