Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / Window sizes in xSchedule
« Last post by Woodroff2 on December 26, 2024, 02:32:21 AM »
Hi guys,
I'm not sure if this is bug or more of a feature request - I only have 3 controllers set up but quite a few entries in the playlist window which means they go off of the bottom of playlist window and requires me to shrink the controller/failures window downwards to increase the size of the playlist window to see them all.

The PC that i run xschedule on has to reboot at 2am every morning, so when I come back to xschedule the next day and reopen xSchedule, the window sizes have reset to default and I have to resize them again.

I notice in the tools menu that there is an option to reset the windows locations, so am wondering if the windows are meant to remember their location / sizes and are not doing so? and if not, if the ability for it to remember window sizes could possibly be added to a future update please?

Many thanks guys, and keep up the good work!

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Compiler errors during build of 2024.19 on Ubuntu 24.04
« Last post by justme on December 20, 2024, 07:33:36 AM »
Good morning. I am trying to build xLights 2024.19 from the source on Ubuntu 24.04. I am receiving lots of errors similar to the following:

models/PolyPointScreenLocation.cpp: In member function ?virtual void PolyPointScreenLocation::AddDimensionProperties(wxPropertyGridInterface*, float) const?:
models/PolyPointScreenLocation.cpp:1875:41: error: ?ReadOnly? is not a member of ?wxPGPropertyFlags?
 1875 |     prop->ChangeFlag(wxPGPropertyFlags::ReadOnly, true);

"make" did install wxWidgets-xlights_2024.20, and wx-config --version displays 3.3.0.

Something went wrong somewhere, and I am just not finding it. I find it curious that xLights is 2024.19 and wxWidgets is 2024.20, but that is what github is offering right now.

Thanks for the assist!

I have the same problem but maybe for a different reason.  I cannot output lights to controller because my Mac operating system is blocking xlights from reaching them.  I have no issues when running on a Windows machine, only with MACOS Sequoia.

Yep. It is okay if one song is 2 minutes and another is 4 minutes. The "quiet" 6 minute static scene in between will be fine. Just keep alternating until you run out of songs. Then repeat.

The Water Cooler / Re: Upgrading to a new computer

I am just starting to look and my specs will be medium CPU, midrange GPU, lots of memory (probably 32GB), nice TB SSD. Probably about $1500. Add in a couple new monitors including a nice gaming monitor.

This will cover my use for electronics, lights, gaming, surfing and light office work. If I didn't have gaming, I would probably downgrade the GPU and go with cheap monitors. Could probably get away with 16 GB memory. I "only" have 500GB drive now and it is fine. Stopped by the electronics department at Walmart just today and they had a decent CyberPower PC for around $800. Usually can find something better than Walmart (at least I did last I bought one) but it is a nice PC for that money.

The Water Cooler / Upgrading to a new computer

Hey guys and gals! I know it?s a busy time of season for everyone but I?m currently looking to upgrade my all-in-one computers. I currently use a 2017 model that?s slower and needs constant updates (which runs our light show). My wife uses a Lenovo all-in-one for her cricket and running my small business. Both are now slower, wi-fi connectivity issues, upset wife, 5 minutes re-connecting wi-fi to her computer.

So, I?m looking to upgrade to a desktop we can use to cover all three uses (oh, forgot she uses my computer to do home schooling also)! There?s a lot of option for a desk top and curious what a great option would be. I?m an electrician since 1996, instrumentation tech, networking solver, plc and hmi tech and freq drive programmer.

I?m currently not running my light show this year as we are re-modeling our front porch so I have plenty of time for working out next years bugs. Any suggestions for this massive upgrade with additions to our light show?

Thanks in advance guys!

I'm trying not to piss off the neighbors too badly, so what I've been doing is run an song sequence every 10 minutes.

So, song; all on; song; all on; song; etc.

So I'm looking to make a basic animated sequence to run in between songs.  The potential issue is that every song is a different length so the "all on" sequence would need to be long enough to cover the interval between songs.

Or are you saying to just create one hour long sequence that includes all of the songs and the "all on" segments?

I think you are going to have to explain further. However, since it is now 12/12, you should go to the zoom room and raise your hand and they will get you squared away.

It is all one show. Schedule a sequence as needed "in between".

Why not run continuously? People don't drive by to see a show they drive by to see your lights so it could be anytime.

I've been on Vixen for years and now that I'm starting to get RGBs, I'm moving over to xLights.  In Vixen I would have a background sequence script that would run to keep the lights on until a show starts.

How do I do something like this with xLights?  Is there a way to make a short animation sequence and then have it loop and run until the next musical sequence starts?
