Creating my Static Models
« on: June 07, 2015, 09:46:26 AM »
Pardon me if this has been asked and answered before, I have 240 of lor channels, I want to strictly sequence using xlights, so when I am setting up my static models ( which all would be universe 1 ) can I draw out my singing trees and add the channel number to them? IE if singing tree #1 has 8 channels dedicated to it from lor how can I recreate this in xlights?

It sounds like a Custom Model is the right way to tackle that.  It's basically like an Excel spreadsheet where you can type channel numbers into the cells.  The channel numbers you enter in the cell are relative so even if your model is starting at channel 8546 you still start with channel 1 in the cells.  Dan has a screenshot somewhere around here showing his singing tree models and I believe he provided his files.  If you type a number in the wrong cell you can put a 0 in the cell to turn it back off.  There is no limit to the number of times you can enter a channel number on the model.  I attached a screenshot of my custom candy cane model which also happens to have 8 channels.

I don't know if it will work like that.  I think in the custom model cells on the right you need to change all the 113 -> 1, 114 -> 2, 115 -> 3, etc.  The channel numbers on the right are the offset from your start channel not the actual channel number except I think it's 1 based so 1 represents your start channel not 0.

I am trying to figure out how to change that, when I go to 114 and try to change from output to 2 everything seems to change

The channel numbers I'm saying to change are the ones listed under the A, B, C, D columns.  I didn't say anything about touching the "From Output" field.  That is used if you want to define all your channels as offsets from a base output number.  Once you change it away from 1 you are switching modes.  Look at my screenshot again.  See how my start channel is in the 8000+ range but my custom model has the values 1-8.

I found it easier to define a custom model in excel and then paste it.
Sean has a video on custom models.
But basically after defining in excel, you copy, click the first cell of the custom model, the click the paste icon.

Otherwise, to correct a custom model and remove the number, I use the scissors icon is highlight cell first,  but took me  while to figure that.

are your candy canes rgb nodes?
if yes, then yes
start at 113 and number them 1 to N. The numbering goes by string type
if RGB nodes, then each number represents a node
if Single Channel lights, each number represents a light. i single channel red candy cane would be drawn with all number  1's.

I am going to have to redo my set up make the appropriate changes and try it again, parts of it work but not all of it, I know it is in my set up so once I finalize static channels then I can start to import the sequences that I want to use, I will keep you posted, I am sure there will be more questions.

Sean I'm the one with candy canes and was showing it as an example.  Mine are rgb nodes but its the kind with those 3 led rectangles so I represent them with 3 nodes per rgb channel.

Also for gerry...if you need to correct a cell just type a 0 in it.  After you save the 0 disappears.

Thanks ! I had tried everything else ie delete , backspace , space bar (this was when I was first trying to draw a singing face which looked like a beaten up face at some stage) , then someone at the Sydney mini , told me to use the spreadsheet route for such attempts .
