Trouble with effects
« on: May 30, 2015, 05:00:15 PM »
I started out using Vixen easy to work with and free, I like the Superstar mega tree effect so I'd ike to work that in when money frees up. I started playing with xlights and so far have added music set up previews but when it comes to adding the effects the software doesn't allow me to select anything plus most of the effect icons if you will are dull and don't look obtainable. Am i doing something wrong or downloaded the wrong software. I have 4.035.

hello,

Have you defined your models ?
if not:
First , under the preview tab , you click on  models and add them (eg Mega Tree , start , arch etc).
then under the sequencer tab , you right click on timing bar , click on edit display elements, and then add the models that you defined via the preview tab to the sequencer.

Than you can drop effects.

Hi ,

Sean and Gil have some excellent videos posted.

The thing is figuring out where to start when you are new
(I am newish)

The link below shows the steps to create a new sequence . Then if you look at all Seans 330+ videos you can pick which ones you need to watch. The front end has changed considerably after 4.0 , but to understand some of the concepts you have to watch the earlier videos or ask questions

Yeah I have several video that you can pick up some tips in.    Usually most of my videos are trying to demonstrate something new I've added to the code whereas Sean usually has specific topics he's trying to cover.

This one shows some new features that will be coming out in the next release:

This one has some copy pasting and moving effects around in the grid:

This one was when I added repeats to the morph effect:

This one just shows a bunch of effects I did on a matrix for a show.  You can see all the effects on the timeline plus there is a thread around here that has the actual sequence you could look at.

Or just browse the other ones in my channel but you might run into some non xLights videos.

Beginners Guid to xlights

1) setup your show folder.
2) Fill in the SETUP tab. The data can be changed later. I start with 16,24 or 32 universes of E1.31. Later you can change this to actually match your hardware. You need a block of channels first
3) Create models. You get to the model screen (i know it is weird) Preview tab, Models. Soon there will be an icon to launch the model screen from SEQUENCERS.
4) Now you can create a new sequence. Pick
