My move(s) away from the LOR protocol came in stages.
First (8 years ago), I began seeing lags and skips when my channel count went over 120
So, I used two USB dongles for output. That helped a lot
When I bumped up channel count some more by adding some RGB pixels (D-Light FireFli), it returned.
So I got into DMX. Worked with D-Light users and we implemented DMX on all the D-Light boards.
No lags plus improved functions.
To handle the output (from LOR software on my PC), I began using an E1.31 bridge from J1-Sys to give me 4 universes of DMX. No more USB dongles for me.
Then I got involved with RJ and the DLA site (Etherdongle and Pixelnet and Lynx Express and Hubs and SSC)
Channel count bloomed again, but still no USB dongles. DMX and Pixelnet were rock solid.
Then I began using the Falcon Pi Player and the FPD. Not only did it free up my PC but the FPD gave me 64,000 channels of Pixelnet to use and 4 universes of DMX.
My point is - there are many ways to talk to your LOR AC Controllers (via DMX) other than using USB dongles.
As in - Friends don't let Friends use USB dongles. Or Floppy Disks.
