display elements
« on: June 25, 2015, 05:37:04 PM »
Hello all,

So after I have my Display elements organized just the way I want them with my Whole house over only the rgbs and starting off with the ac channels that are now DMX.

Is there a way I can use the same set up for all of my sequences similar to the lcc file in lor?

without having to edit them in one at a time?

Brad

You can create a blank sequence, set up your grid with the models how you want it and save, name it template or whatever you want.  You can then read that back in anytime, adjust the settings for the new sequence and make sure you "save as" versus save again.  You can keep reusing the basic set up then for future new sequences without having to set the grid up again.

Thanks

That's was where I was wanting to go, sometimes my mind gets a little foggy and then lazy.

That's the way I do it. But I saved once and then my template had a sequence in it. Make the template, then make a few copies. You'll do it too.

Or you can attrib +r on the file to make it read only and you'll never be able to save over it until you attrib -r.

Instead of opening your standard config file in nutcracker you could also make a copy using a file manager program and give it a new name.   Another good practice would be to use the backup option immediately after making your master config and then you would have one that you could go back to.  Or even make a copy with a bogus extension name that would not show up when you do a file open.  Then if you ever saved over the top of it you could go back and copy the bogus name version back to a valid name.  Lots of choices.  Why didn't I think of all these before I overwrote mine as Steve suggested we would all do at some point.  LOL

That's a current way to do it but in the future I think I'd like to add a way to point to an existing file when creating a new sequence and we would copy over all the display elements and/or the ability to import display element from another sequence after you've already started.

That would be nice like a "use preference display elements" check box

I like the idea of a user preference dialog box too.  You could set all of your user preferences once and every new sequence after that would automatically be set upon being crated.  Would just need to fine tune some additional settings (like music file or length for an animation only).  Then we wouldn't have to worry about overwriting a template file.

I switch show folders often and would need a way to switch those prefs too.

Excellent suggestions - guys - I never thought of the above . I had opened an enhancement request, suggesting that one of the settings could be a 'select default models from ' prompt or attribute which could then point to the xml seq file which you wish to use as the template to copy the models in from. This could then be used when you create a new sequence . (Note: this is what the current LSP does)
