Colors are acting whacky
« on: July 07, 2015, 01:21:36 PM »
Using 4.1.9 with an e681 running the latest firmware.  My issue is when I test my lights using xlights  and odd thing happens when the universe changes. Universe 1 works fine, universe 2 is working on it own, colors are different, some don't work, some stay on, I have set up all the universes and outputs on the board to the correct color output and it works,(run test commands from the controller it self)
Also when running the fseq from my pi player the sequence starts but then never changes.  The lights that first light up never turn off.

Any ideas

Thanks

Andy

Checked controller set up.  The lights are ws2811s and that is what the universes are set too.  Do you have to set the string type in the software?

You don't set string type in the software.  You only define the universe and channel count.  You just need to make sure the Universe setup in the controller matches the setup in xLights.

Here is the catch with the SanDevice controllers and why a universe boundary causes whacky colors

Ch1 - Red
Ch2   Green
Ch3   Blue
Ch4   Red
Ch5   Green
Ch6   Blue
....

Ch511 Red
Ch512 Green
Oh no a universe has 512 channels.
How does LED #171 get blue? LED#171, blue is channel 513.

Short story long, other controllers don't do it this way, but for the SanDevice controllers, I have set the universes up to 510 channels.

Sean is dead on, you need to set your Universe size for 510 and this will apply to the new AlphaPix 4 and AlphaPix 16 Controllers from HolidayCoro. The Falcon does not have this challenge.

to expand

pixlite 16, alphapix, e682, j1sys p12r ALL need 510 channels in setup per universe.

Falcon controllers are the only one (That i know of) that can use the full dmx universe.
With falcon F16-v1 or -v2  controllers you set 512 channels per universe.

I use a few of those controllers and I always use 512 in xLights setup and have never had a problem.  But I never cross Universe boundaries when I send data to the strings.

Lynx controllers also use the full 512 channels per universe
