Select multiple timing tracks
« on: August 20, 2015, 03:58:49 PM »
Hi

Does anyone know if it is possible to select multiple timing tracks in the sequencer window to assist in placing of events??

I have 3 timing tracks at present, 50ms, imported beat/bar and a "tap timing" track to help place things..

I can only manage to select one timing track to drop the guidelines down across the channels but allowing the 50ms and the tap timing marks to drop down would greatly assist in setting my lot up!!!

Is this possible??
If not could this be considered for inclusion???

Thanks.

You get to choose 1 at a time and that won't be changing.

Is there a technical reason why that cant be implemented??

Not entirely sure what I just did...

But I seem to have managed to get both a tap timing track and a 50ms timing track to drop down the grid??!!??!?!?

Wish I'd taken more notice of how I did it!!!

I am pretty sure that you can get more than one grid to appear

I have seen a red colour (say for bars) and a green colour grid (beats) on my sequencer at the same time. Especially as when I select the circle for one , the circle of the other one selected does not get turned off.

But to be honest , most of the time when this occurs , I actually turn off the other one as it was not my intention to have both active. Did not really pay attention to it and am not sure if it only occurs in some situations only.

If Gil says that this is not by design , then it maybe that the previous color is not being removed. Noticed this when doing Dan's jokes that sometimes the colour of the timing marks did not correspond to the Lyrics timing track selected. In which case, I could not drop the "face" between the marks. After a few times of this occurring , I decided to do all the voice 1 first and then the voice 2 . in the jokes case this was not logical as the voices talk to each other ... for songs would be fine.

Edit: Just opened my sequence and selected both timing grids. Picture attached

Hi Gerry

Glad I'm not the only one that saw that happen....

Weird thing is, half way through a sequence it stopped doing it and I cant get it back on again!!!!!

I noticed the duel selection as well when I was working on Dan's Papagayo request.  I'm wondering if this was accidentally introduced with that feature?

I Have just figured out how I did it and got it back....

However I am a bit wary about advertising it in case it gets programmed out....
lol
 :P

It happened when I was in any other view than Master View
I have set up some sub views to break down the channels a bit.
When in one of those it will allow me to select the 2 timing tracks I want and this then displays across the rest of them.

I am finding this invaluable in the type of sequences i do.. and matches up with how i did it in my original program.

Gil...  Please don't remove that blip / functionality......

I never use the master view since about a week after the views were introduced. I just got used to defining one with all my groups in it and then double clicking the group that I was working on to open the models and now that the timing marks are copied to the views , it is great !

Yep that's a bug.  The original request made it sound like you wanted the combination of two timing mark tracks to be able to create new selectable cells formed by the combination of the lines from both.  That's what isn't going to happen.  I'm not going to try to make it figure out where cells are by combining lines from two tracks.   All the logic depends on there only be one active timing track.  What you are seeing is a bug that is allowing multiple tracks to be viewed but there is still only one of those that is active.  It appears to be the topmost one so there's no way to use the other one's unless you deactivate all tracks above it.

It might be useful to be able to view multiple tracks but I don't like that way that is working.  I would rather the circle only show filled on the active track and maybe have some other mechanism to make a track viewable but not active. We also have an issue I never got time to fix with regards to the Papagayo style timings.  I would like each row to be able to be made active but right now you can only select cells from the Phrase timing...not the Word or Phoneme timing.

Hi Gil

I only wanted the second to drop down as a guide, not make new cells to work with.....

My top track is 50ms and the tap is below.
So I am actually working on the 50ms track, but bearing congnisance to the position of the tap.

Bit hard to explain, but the 'bug' actually works incredibly well to my favour and does what I first requested...

Yeh , I liked the multiple ones too.

Only use one at a time (as my sequencing is simple) , but every now and then select the other one (bars/beats never sure which is which) or a manual one, just to get my bearings for alignment , before diving back in.

Yeah I can see the benefit of it I just think the way we activate them needs some tweaking.
