Where is the 'add elements' button in the sequencer tab??
« on: September 11, 2015, 03:37:26 PM »
Previously to now, I have only used the latest version of version 3.6? I just downloaded the latest 4.29 and I can't find the button that allows me to add an element to the sequencer. I have viewed the vimeo that Sean made and that button is readily apparent on the video but not apparent on version 4.29

I have gone through the setup process as that seems identical to version 3. I have even defined an element as that was also identical to version 3 just slightly more difficult to find the process. Now that I have a element defined, I can't seem to add this element into the sequencer.

I have a model preview window with nothing in it and a house preview window with my only defined element in it. I just can't seem to add my element into the sequencer so that I can start adding effects to it. The model preview window is empty.

Where is that 'add element' button hiding?

When you create a new sequence and choose, say something like 50ms  or 25ms in the setup of the new sequence, you will end up with a timing track called 50ms. Just right click on the blue label that says 50ms (or 25ms depending on what you chose initially)  and a menu will appear with the bottom option being "edit display elements". Click on that and you can add your elements from there.

OK, that helped a bit. I have a blue label that says 'new timing'. I did select 50ms but the timing grid is set up for grid spacing at every 5 seconds not 50 MSEC as I requested. How can I have the timing grid spaced every 50msec? I wish to use my own timing as I have done in the past with version 3.7 but I need a 50msec grid.

How can I set up fixed grid timing marks every 50 milliseconds?

Also where is the play button for the effects?
When I click on the play button, I wish only to turn an effect on so that I can see it's effect on the effect window and by looking over my shoulder at my actual element. On version 3.7, there were two different play buttons. There was a play button of the left that played an effect forever if it was left on and there was a different play button on top of the sequence that played the sequence while the song was playing.

Where is the play button to ONLY play effects? Not the sequence. Can't seem to find that either. --Greg--

The grid spacing you're seeing depends on your level of zoom.  If you zoom in you will see those same line spacing, but the time between them will decrease.  That doesn't affect anything when it comes sequencing.  It's more for reference than anything in my opinion.

If you selected 50ms when setting up your sequence, then that is the timing for the file.  You will be able to drag your effect to lengthen or shorten their duration, all in 50ms increments.  Or you can drop timing marks within the timing track, but you can't put them any closer than 50ms.

Effects should for the most part play in the preview window the moment you drop them on the grid, or click on another effect and that one should play automatically, looping continuously.  You can however click the stop button on the top of your screen while an effect is playing in the preview window and it will stop.  Just click on the effect again and it will play.  If you click the play button on top, the sequence will start playing.

Thank you Kevin, there is a lot different between 3.6 and 4.29. It's going to take a long time to get proficient with this new style. I'll have to view more video's to learn all the in's and outs of the new version 4.

3.6 is working perfect for me and I really doubt that I'll change before this Christmas season. After about January 5th when the season is over, then I'll abandon 3.6 & go to the latest version of 4.?? In the mean time, I'll slowly learn version 4

Thanks again. --Greg--

Greg the default timing track you are getting when creating a new sequence doesn't have any timing marks in it yet.  You can add your own wherever you want.  The 50ms option you selected defines the smallest effect interval and also determines your file sizes.  If you picked 25ms your files would be twice as big.  If you really want a 50ms timing grid you need to create another timing track. Goto menu option Settings -> Sequence Settings, click on the Timings tab, and select the New button.  In that dialog you can select a 50ms timing track.  You will get a new timing track and it will look like a solid bar until you zoom in enough to see separation between the lines.

Effects should play in the model preview window anytime you drop one on the grid or when you click on one it becomes the active effect in the preview.

That blank timing track is where I like to play the music while hitting 't' to create some rough marks to work with.

this idea of needing a 50ms timing track is LOR centric, you do NOT need it in xlights.
I have dozens of sequences that i sequence with 50ms accuracy and I do NOT have any 50ms timing tracks.

When you created the sequence we ask you the finest resolution you want to use 100ms (10fps), 50ms (20fps) or 25ms (40fps). No timing track is created from this, it is used to basically setup a backgrround in the sequencer tab that allows clicking and setting timing marks.

your just mark where your effects with a start and end. You want something from 5.00 to 10.00 seconds, press "t" and create a timing mark on the blank timing track,

You can also pick 5.02 to 10.15. You are able to create timing marks with that resolution because you created the original sequence and told us the minimum resolution to allow.

You had to create timing of 50ms in lor before you could start to mark up effects. XL4 allows you to mark timing marks with out that.

Hi Greg,
Can I suggest that you convert one or more iof your sequences to 4.n and run with it. You will be surprised at how quickly youl pick it u , there are so many people coming over from LOR and LSP even now.

I think that if u did run into problems with 3.6 , it would not be easy to get as many people helping ?

If u wait until next year to convert , the conversion at that stage may not work ...
