2-Strand per String, Single Color Models Crash
« on: September 21, 2015, 10:38:06 AM »
I have been playing around trying to figure out how to model an up-and-over type, non-RGB megatree and I get regular crashes. Working on a completely new show folder and a simple network, new sequence with just one model in it. If I define the tree first as a single color, 16 string, 1-strand per string 360 Tree there's no problem. I can place effects on it. If I define it as a single color, 16 string, 2-strand per string 360 Tree, it will create the model and grid (though the grid shows 32 rows), but as soon as I attempt to place an effect it crashes. If I take the 1-strand per string model with effects already on it and convert it to a 2-strand per string tree it will crash upon exiting the model dialog. There is no problem doing this with RGB strings, just single-color. One thing that stands out is it seems that there should only be 16 rows in the grid, or that somehow the second 16 should mirror the effects placed in the first 16.

Are you trying to edit the models from the sequencer tab or the layout tab?  I've never seen it crash because of changing a model but I always do it from the Layout tab.  So I was wondering if you are bringing up the models panel while the grid is displayed and then you are modifying what the grid is trying to render while it's displayed.

It crashes either way. Most of the time I'm editing models from the Layout tab, just 'cause I'm not used to having access from anywhere else.

It sounds like its crashing because you are changing the model after establishing effects.  Try making your models the way you want them first and then start sequencing.

It crashes the first time I apply an effect even with the model properly defined. From original post:

It simply does not know how to handle a single-color, multi-strand string.

Well sorry...I'm just guessing cause I'm not familiar with those aspects of the source code.  You talk about 32 rows does that mean your placing effects at the node level?  If I don't know all the details of the steps you are doing then I'll just guess at what you're doing and then it probably won't fail for me and I'll be back here asking more questions.
