Save Layout page view
« on: December 30, 2015, 08:21:25 AM »
Would like to be able to save the model order and window view in Layout page. If you set your model order then modify a model all models get reordered. Want also to save a manually expanded model window. Being able to double click a model to modify would be nice.

Right click on model to modify. Not sure I follow the other stuff.

If you are referring to selecting the model itself, I have a large "Stack" of models in one area that makes selecting that specific model very difficult. For me you have to select "Models" first. What I would like, and a right click edit would be fine, is to be able to do that from the elements list.

Thanks,
Roger

Would like to be able to save the model order and window view in Layout page. If you set your model order then modify a model all models get reordered.

Under the layout tab, the models are simply listed in alphabetical order.  There is no way to modify the order under that tab.  If you rename a model, it moves in the list based on the name.

If you are talking about the model order under the sequencer tab, the user has complete control of how the models are displayed.

I'm not aware of any windows that you can save their locations under the layout tab.  The windows that do appear are pop up windows that you need to close in order to move on.  Under the sequencer tab you can adjust the windows how you want and save the locations using the perspective feature.  You can have multiple perspectives saved and recall them at any time.

Thanks Kevin. Everything that I am asking is under the Layout tab. That is why I was requesting an enhancement....maybe I should not have....
Right now you can change the order by channel count and not alpha, it just won't save that order and that is what I would like to be able to do. Also that window is scalable and I would like to be able to save that setting as well. Not a big deal in any aspect, I just thought that I would suggest it. Sorry if I am not being clear with my description!  :-[

Thanks,
Roger

OK, now I'm understanding better.  You are sorting the preview models list by clicking the column header.  The program does remember that sort/window size while it's running and switching tabs.  But it does revert back to the default upon the next opening of xLights.

Kevin that is correct. Although the sorting will not stay in channel order if you open and close a model, while staying in the Layout tab.  Sorry for the confusion! I know what I thinking, just cannot always (well never) articulate it well.  :-[

Thanks,
Roger

I'd like to throw that whole window away and start from scratch.  Everything is too clunky.  I'd like to see the list as more of a tree view with clickable visibility icons.  I think Dan has talked about wanting multiple layout views.  So you'll probably just have to see what we come up with and then have a whole new set of things you don't like. :)

LOL! That sounds great! Thanks for the input Gil! I did not want to sound like I did not like anything!!! Fantastic software. Just throwing some.... should I say "inconveniences" out there. Just my way of doing things that typically ends up being backwards anyway!  ::)

Since I have 10 mini-trees and 10 mini-tree stars, I ended up naming the last one of each as "mini-tree A" and "mini-star A" so that they would stay in correctly order.  When named "mini-tree 10" it kept moving up between 1 and 2.

Or name xxxx 01, xxxx 02, xxxx 12.

Been there done that just today for a song list that had no numbers.  Google Play lets you download music you buy to your computer but they don't put album song number in the downloaded titles.  If you have a google play account they are offering one album at half price.  I am not aware of any restrictions either.  I think you must redeem the offer to get the coupon code by the 31st, but you have until Jan 4 to complete your purchase.
