How to release an effect edge
« on: October 14, 2015, 03:06:51 PM »
I keep getting into trouble clicking on an effect so that it is highlighted and then it moves the left or right edge of the effect.  How do I get out of this?  I have tried esc, double clicking, reading the manual, etc.  There is something I am missing.  Today I was trying to copy multiple effects, actually the whole line and I clicked on the first effect to start my drag around multiple and just ended up moving the left edge of the effect.  Very frustrating.  Sure would like to be able to click on a row and select copy row, move to a new row, rt click and select paste.

I usually just let up on the left mouse button but I'm assuming you tried that.  The question isn't how to get out of it...it's how did you get into it?  You're saying it's stuck and won't let go.  Part the key is you gotta look at what type of mouse cursor you have when you are clicking to select.  I like to select in open areas but I'm assuming you have it jam packed so there is no open space.  If you must click on the effect to select a group then make sure it's the normal arrow pointer.  When you are over an edge the cursor changes to the edge selector and when you are near the edge you get the hand pointer.  It seems easy to use for me so I'm not sure what you're experiencing.

I have seen the same thing...   So.   When I am copying/pasting sections I start my copy on a cell "above", "below", "to the left" or "to the right" of the cells I need to copy.   that avoids the "sticky" effects that move effects around unintentionally.  I hope that helps.   I hope it makes sense...

It has worked well for me; just did that last night in fact.

I have had the edge of an effect stick to the mouse cursor too. It's as if the the mouse button release was not detected.  I click around a bit and eventually the effect will drop. I then do an undo and try again.

I have it happen all the time but it's because I'm debugging and have it set to hit a breakpoint when I select an effect.  I can't recall it happening when running normally.  I have no idea how to prevent it since I rely on Windows to tell me what you do with the mouse.  When you click the left button we do a mouse capture but only under certain conditions so there is a chunk of logic that runs in between so I can only guess a really quick click and release might be able to cause a problem.  I'm betting it has to do with your mouse sensitivity settings and that would explain why it happens to some more than others.
