27 Channel Dumb Controler
« on: September 12, 2015, 08:49:09 PM »
Hello,
I am new to rgb this is only my second year with rgb but have been doing LOR for a few years. I did an outline of my house last year using the pixlight 16. Last year was also my first year of using xlights and I think it is just awesome. This year I bought 2 27 channel dumb rgb controllers from Holiday Coro. My question is how do i set them up in xlights? I know I have to plug them into my pixlight to get them to work on my network but not sure how to set them up in xlights.

Thank you
RM

Hi,

I am assuming that you will connect them to one of the 4 pixlite 16 dmx outputs?

If yes, then nothing special in xlights. What are you driving off them ?

Let's say that the first 3 channels are dumb lights, mthe u define a model xxx, and set the start channel to the channel of the 27 controller. So I'f u set the 27 to start at 50 ,then model xxx would start at 50. I'd u then had a face with 9 channels, the  model channel would start at 52 and u would connect this to the 2nd block output of the 27ch  etc
The dip switch of the 27 channel is used to set the start address and then it continues from there.

I have two of these for singing faces, dumb lights etc etc

Hi,
Yes I am connecting the first one to the pixlight 16 dmx output and then connecting the second one to the fiirst one. So In xlights do I set them up as e131 since they are going through the pixlight or do I set them up as a usb connection? I am driving 12V 12mm dumb bullet nodes I am going to run 30 nodes per output.

You set them up as e131.

What addresses are you setting the 27 channel controllers to ?

I have not daisy chained mine , but have used 2 of the pixlite 16 outputs  as it has 4 and connected each using the cat5 cables.

I set one of them to 50 amd the other to 80 .

On the second I have singing faces , the model uses 80 to 88 and 89 to 97 , rest are free.

On the first one , the strand model starts from 50.
Hope this helps.

Have any of you had a dip switch block fail or installed backwards?  Trying to set mine to start channel 81 and I believe that would be 1,5,7 on, all others off. When I try and test I'm not getting any results. If my controller is receiving dmx data what should I see on the board, flashing red led? Frustrated!!!

Hi,

The settings should be correct as per Chart A (I get mine from Ray Wu)

I have attached the sheet that I use - there is an alternate Chart B (5,7 on only).

Is this the first 27ch not working ? You have connected it to the first port of the Pixlite 16 and configured the Pixlite 16 for the DMX output ie moved the blue bar ?

If not using the first DMX output - have you upgraded the firmware ? When mine is running it flashes red.

Have you used the xl test function to set say 81 (or a range around those values eg 1 100 ) on to see if anything lights up ?

I have not tried 5 and 7 only or testing a range.  Good ideas.  Thank you
