Select output for movie mode video
« on: November 13, 2015, 11:50:42 PM »
I have no problem getting video to display in movie mode.  The only problem I'm having is getting it to display out the right output when I have the projector and a monitor plugged in.  It always defaults to the monitor to output the video in movie mode.  I've tried changing the main display, swapping the ports the projector and the monitor are plugged into, dragging xLights to the projector window.  No matter what I do it still plays on the monitor and not the projector.  I'm at a complete loss.  The only way I can get it to play out the projector is if I completely unplug the monitor, which I'd rather not do if I don't have to.  There has got to be something I'm missing here as I know others have done this.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?  Thanks!

Hmmm. Maybe no one has hit this same issue yet?  Or it isn't an issue at all and it's just me :)

That's cause very few people use xLights as a show player anymore.  None of the developers use it.  I use the Raspberry Pi to run my projector.  Once you try it you won't go back.

Gil, unfortunately the FPP can't do what I need which is play an mp4 with an fseq and be in sync from the beginning to the end :( My only option I can get it to work on is xLights.  FPP is out of sync in the first 5 seconds of the song.  According Chris / CaptainMurdoch this is normal - here is a quote from the Falcon Christmas forums

"That is normal as the video and sequence are playing separately and FPP tries to keep the sequence that it is playing in sync with the video which is being played by an external program called omxplayer"

He said he is trying to fix it but it won't happen soon enough for this holiday season.  So my hands are kind of tied since FPP can't do what I need.  Trust me...I'd be using the FPP otherwise.  I bought the Pi for this season and now won't be able to use it :( but I'm hopeful for next season :)

Well I'm playing my video on a P10 panel so I had to render the video to an xLights sequence so the FPP plays it in perfect sync.  I hadn't heard anyone say MP4's didn't play in sync.  Sean sounded like he does it all the time as well as Dave.

I guess you need to solve the display output problem and let us know what you did.  I have no idea how the program would have any control over which monitor is used to play a video.  Doesn't it default to using Windows Media Player.  Seems like you could make it so WMP defaults to playing on that other output.

Just a thought but on my laptop I can "dual Screen" the laptop display to a HDMI monitor by pressing F5 or F6.  This is how I ran my show last year.  My laptop screen was showing the scheduler output and it was mirrored to the monitor.  Video played great!

Thanks, if I'm understanding you correctly you are running in a mirrored screen setup.  I was thinking of doing that.

Chris acknowledges it here - http://falconchristmas.com/forum/index.php/topic,3190.msg36213.html#msg36213

I thought the same thing you did about Sean doing it and mentioned that to Chris here - http://falconchristmas.com/forum/index.php/topic,3190.msg36220.html#msg36220

Sean has a video tutorial https://vimeo.com/99301737 showing how to do it here on the FPP and I assume it is in sync since he's making timing marks...but David said "I do not think Sean was too worried about the first 5 seconds with his setup. Timing was not as critical."

So I'm at a loss.  I wish it worked on the FPP...I really do...since now I just have a Pi sitting around gathering dust that I bought specifically for this season :(
