Brightness level
« on: August 16, 2014, 03:29:37 PM »
Sean in the X-lights the brightness level goes to 400 is this going to be so bright that it burns out the pixels? should I be keeping the level at 100 or less?

No, the max that brightness can be set is to 255.

The 400 indicates a 400% increase over the original setting.
If an effect sets brightness to 255, sliding the brightness will make no difference, we can only go to 255 per channel.

Where this was used is for movies and pictures. you might have a picture that came in dim, and maybe the brightest  value was 60. Now the brightness slider will increase that value up to 255.

You cannot burn out the lights.

Thanks Sean, if I remember correctly the slide bar used to go to 100, I just noticed it today up to 400, so it will make no difference on the brightness even if an element is showing 325 the brightest it will be is 100% is this correct?

Sean does this mean that to have 50% brightness I need to adjust slide bar to 127.5?? and for 25% 63.75?

Values cannot be increased past 255. The slider goes from zero to 400. 100 is normal ( leave brightness alone)

I am confused on this.   Does 100 mean 100% or does it mean 100, with 255 equal to 100%?
And when you say 100 is normal, is that a default setting?
Thanks

Sean already said 400 means 400%.

Nope, u see this has confused many. 100% means to multiply the calculated brightness by 1.0, 300% means to multiply by 3.0 and so on. So if you have an effect that is at half brightness and you have 100% , we multiply by 1.0 and the original brightness is unchanged. 100% therefore means 100% of an effects original calculated brightness.

So I understand that 100 is the number of an effects original calculated brightness.   I get it.
I assume that all of my AC channels would be set to 255 (maximum brightness or full on) if that is what I was used to seeing before using XLights/NC.   Then I could go from 255 down to whatever intensity (fade).

Sean,
so if I need to reduce the amperage drawn and place my pixels at 85%, that should save me 15% of the enery draw, correct? or would I need to adjust intensity?
Thanks
Steve

This was an old post.  We might not even have that slider anymore.  I forget whether it got removed when we added Dimming Curves.  The best method now is to specify dimming curve values on the model then it takes effect for every sequence using that model.
