Mounting Pixels for Roof Lines
« on: November 26, 2015, 06:19:27 AM »
I purchased some of the PVC mounting clips from Holiday Coro however I am finding these do not hold up. I installed some to use with my matrix and when I went to push the pvc into the clip the clip just broke instead of accepting the pvc. These are now in the cold. I am not concerned about this year however I would like some ideas for coming seasons as to how some of you have mounted the lights. (Using pixel Nodes bullet style)
BTW I ended up using eye bolts through the pvc on the matrix and a caribeaner type clip using another eye bolt installed into the beam holding the matrix, very strong and workable.

Check out the site above, its matt johnson. There are some how to vids on there one is how to make a matrix. Its a lot of work but when you are done its clean and uniform. The cool part is when you are done using them they just bundle together for storage. You can make the spacing any width you want, I made mine 2" and some other pipe items 3.5" . There is some that ziptie and some that hot glue. There are also pixel strips too .

Those clips have had issues.  I ordered some from China that have a different design that I need to test now that it's cold out.  I think the issue with the Holiday Coro clips is they are designed for PEX which may be slightly smaller in diameter (just my guess).  The Chinese models I have are 1mm larger which might also make the difference as it's not stretching as much.

Hi Kentd, man Thanks for the heads up on the HC clips. You saved me a lot of headache.

I'm mounting CCB's on my eaves. Decided to use a high grade staple gun with an adapter that won't let the staple go through the wiring.  Hopefully it will work OK.

Good Luck.

Happy Thanksgiving

Best,
David

I've used cable mounts with adhesive from Home Depot. The only place they haven't stuck well was brick. I used construction adhesive for that. I attached flat pixels to 1/2" pvc then zip tied to the mounts.

Cable Mounts would not really show up that much, good idea. Home depot also has some really strong double back mounting adhesive that I have used and it sticks really well, used it to mount the ether net switch for the Raspberry PI and it is really strong.
Thanks

I zip tied mine too long lengths of pvc pipe and then made "arms" out of additional five foot sections of pvc pipe with snap tees to straddle the flat ridge lines.  Those with incline, I would do something similar but have a steel cable fasten them to something like a ridge bent over the backside of the roof.  I have a ton of pictures, but not here on my phone, so PM me if you are interested in seeing what I'm talking about.  It was pretty cheap and it allows my OCD to run wild (I can make all the pixels very straight before they go on the roof, which minimizes time spent twenty to thirty feet in the air).

I have the HC clips...yes, they do tend to snap...especially if they have sat out for the entire summer in Florida...but what I have found is if you leave them a little loose, not a lot, but just not tightened down to the nuts...they are more receptive of the PVC...

Jeff, I would like to hear how the alternatives that you are looking at work...I don't care to replace these every year, especially since HC is raping us on the pricing...

I haven't had time to test yet.  If you like the HC clips you can get them off eBay.  They are 3/4 PEX clips.  Same as HC but much cheaper.
