Need advice in adding two color props
« on: December 13, 2015, 09:38:25 PM »
I have 8 "mini trees", wrapped with 120v LED strings.  Two colors: Red & Blue.
These are connected to a Renard SS24.

How do I create such a "tree" in xlights?

I'd just draw a custom model that looks like a tree shape and use the number 1 for the channel since it's single channel.  Define it as Single Channel blue.  Then copy the model and on the new copy change it to Single Color Red.  Place the two models so that they are almost on top of each other in the layout.

Thanks.  That is what I thought, but with all the wonderful programming going on there may have been a different way that I wasn't seeing.

Creating the tree in xlights is just to give a visual representation.  In the past I had 16 3 color AC mini trees and sometimes I just used a line to represent them.  I didn't want to spend to much time just to get something that only I used and just needed to be sure the lights were on at the right time.  But I have done it Gil's way also.

Yeah I have some new items in my Layout this year where I converted bushes and mini trees over to RGB.  I had 85 pixel strings that I used and I just wrap the string in circles around the bush or tree.  So in xLights to make it easy I defined each one as a 5x17 matrix so all I see on the Layout screen is a rectangular grid.  They look really nice in the yard.

I ended up making custom models - sort of.  Just made an inverted "V" and assigned a separate one for each of the two colors.  Thankfully I didn't have a hundred of them.

The matrix idea is a bit interesting.  Perhaps I'll try it and see if they look better than my "V".

I have an "old style" Mega Tree, 16 strands each of Red, Green, Blue and White.

I used to model them as four separate trees, but instead modeled it as a 360 tree with RGBW.

It makes things easier to program, for sure. If I do a pure R or G or B or W, that is exactly what I get.

If I use Purple (Magenta?) it will light up Red and Blue strings.

But, your strings need to be wired sequentially in RGBW order to work right. 64 consecutive channels for me.
