Multiple Playlist
« on: December 27, 2015, 06:33:03 AM »
Please note I am NOT familar with the playlist function in xLights. However it is my understanding that xLights operates under ONE playlist and you make adjustments from there. I have also seen it mentioned that if you make a change, the playlist starts over. I use the playlist and Show On Demand in LOR just about every night that I am working traffic in front of my house. I have a dozen or more playlists. If traffic warrants I shorten the playlist. If "Let It Go" (for example) is requested and the traffic is still busy, I have a playlist for that. On the other hand if the song is requested and traffic is not busy, I have a playlist for that. The Show On Demand allows me to just bring that "Show" up and then click "Ok".  The "Show" will play right after the current "Show" playing.

Maybe the request should be for "Shows" instead of "Playlists". Anyway, I think you understand my request.

If you use a Pi you can create multiple playlist and start any playlist or any song within a playlist from an iPad while you are standing out in the street.  Can you do that with LOR?

Nope. Not without one of Bobs add ons. Not sure if it still works with the new versions and I think it only works with one song at a time. Would love to do that. Just was hoping to run from my windows pc. However I am curious about the PI. Just heard several people talk about crashes this year and kind of worries me. But you are right Gil. Working it from the street would be awesome.

Used the Pi for the first time this year. Had the odd hiccup but easily sorted. However, the fact that I could stand out on the driveway/ street and control my show was fantastic. Controlled the volume ( I have to use speakers) start and stop playlists at will - all from my iPhone. Lots of people are using the Pi trouble free. It's just brilliant ( of course it's  the falcon player software that makes it so indispensable)

hello Robert,

I highly recommend using the PI as a player. You can already do numerous combinations and permutations with the current version 1.7 and already there is a full rewrite of the playlist functionality with enhancements and a full GUI replacement underway - soon to be released in Beta.

Plus the PI zero has just come out...

Is there a tutorial video on this in action? I hear of so many people saying they are going to use a pi next year. Would think that would be something to look at or have. The video that is.

You might be able to find a good Raspberry PI video tutorial over at falconchristmas forum.

I am of those planning to use the PI to run my display next year.   Had some hiccups this year that likely resulted from using an older PC to run show...  :-(

Here is a PI video I found last week that I have not yet watched...
